Look of the Week: Chocolate Week at Thierry

Hello lovlies!

This past week I stopped by Thierry Chocolaterie/Patisserie with friends to celebrate chocolate week! They were offering specials all last week from a meet-and-greet with Thierry himself to chocolate samples and menu additions. On Friday, me and some friends taste-tested some Marañón chocolate and tried their new Michel Cluizel chocolate-dipped maracon. Naturally, I chose to pair this with a glass of sparkling wine; can you say heaven?

Such an occassion warranted a fancy/cozy outfit, due to the dreary wet weather outside. I've been wearing my thrifted Neiman Marcus cashmere sweater non-stop lately to keep warm and casually chic all week. Throw an infinity scarf on top and you're set! I love the idea of adding some sparkle to your knits; it gives them a little bit of a festive feel. Try it sometime: mix a cozy sweater with some sequins for a pretty look on a cold day.

Thrifty Thursday

No, you are not crazy. It's Friday and I'm posting a Thrifty Thursday post. Such is life this week...I apologize for the lack of posts this past week; school life has become increasingly busy and utterly chaotic. What could go wrong did go wrong. It's time to get into a better mood by celebrating over new finds!

Apparently you can never have enough blazers, because I've thrifted myself 3 in the last month. This one is good for business casual, with the pinstriped lining.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Zara Basic
Section: Blazers
Price I Paid: $9.99
What it's Worth: ~ $79.90

Finally, a modern, classy blouse! There's nothing worse than only having a plain white blouse in my closet. I've been looking for something a little bit more interesting, and this one fits the bill.

Brand: Unknown
Section: Blouses
What I Paid: $5.99

I love all the tulles, lace, and studs! It stood out so easily from all the other skirts (and might I say there were a lot of them!). I just wore this skirt to a night out this past week: pictures from that to come!

Look of the Week: A Little Bit of Change

I told you I had a surprise for you...I dyed my hair for the first time ever!

I chose a colour similar to Emma Stone's previous hair colour (before she went blonde). With blonde hair, I try to stay away from neutrals somewhat because it's just too little colour and looks drab. With my new hair colour, I'm excited to have a whole new colour palette to work with. It'll look much better with neutrals and will looks much better with softer shades. This will also mean an entirely different make up palette will be available to me too: more browns and neutral tones. I'm not quite sure how my red lipstick will fit in yet, but I'm sure I'm sure I'll find a way to make it work!

As the fall weather finally caught up with us this week, I thought it would be appropriate to cozy up in a local coffee shop in North Vancouver to escape the cold. I had a delicious pumpkin spice latte while I sat there looking admittedly preppy. I'm noticing my outfits have become almost 100% thrifted lately...which speaks to how much of my wardrobe is thrifted now (it's an addiction!). The dress is great since it's made of a thick knit - perfect for when you want to wear a dress in the fall. No sacrificing warmth here! You'll get all the details on that dress here. If you want to add a preppy touch to any outfit, I love to throw on my plaid 'Burberry' scarf. Add my FENDI glasses to the mix, and I think we're pretty much at geek chic status!

Wow, this is officially Vancouver Vogue's 100th post! I wanted to wait for a special post this weekend, but I didn't want to keep you waiting for a post that long. That would be mean. But there will be something slightly different about my styling routine after this weekend...you will see!

As the weather starts to really cool down, we have to start getting creative with how to look fashionable while still staying warm. Here's some inspiration on how you can encorporate this season's trends into your fall/winter wardrobe. Switch out sleeveless for long sleeves, add a leather or embellished jacket, a longer skirt, or even some snazzy gloves to keep those fingers toasty!

Thrifty Thursday

You'll notice a couple of pieces here that I wore during Vancouver Fashion Week! I'm proud to say I thrifted almost every thing that I wore to the week of fashion shows.

Far more often, I'm finding myself saying: "Ha! This is my most proud find to date!" It's a great feeling, and it's the biggest rush when you first find it. This blazer is my newest proud find. It fits perfectly and is just a touch fancier than your average blazer.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: BCBGMaxAzria
Section: Blazers
What I Paid: $9.99
What it's Worth: $250

I wore this dress to Day 3 of VFW.  I've been buying embellished clothing like crazy this season; the studs, the beads, the spikes...they give a plain outfit that extra boost that sends you to glamazon status.

Store: Value Village
Brand: Silence+Noise
Section: Dresses
What I Paid: $14.99
What it's Worth: $68

You've already seen me wear this dress to the Opening Gala of Vancouver Fashion Week. I loved the black and gold pattern, which reminded me of the Baroque trend which has been a hot topic this season. I couldn't get the back to zip up completely, and I HAD to have this dress, so I did a DIY similar to this one and use some black elastic to bridge the gap.

Store: Value Village
Brand: H&M
Section: Rack of new items to be put out (snagged it before it even hit the shelves!)
What I Paid: $14.99
What its Worth: $29.95

Vancouver Fashion Week Day 5

It has finally come: the final chapter on my adventures as Runway Correspondent for Vancouver Fashion Week's Spring/Summer 2013 season! My feet have been greatful to be out of heels for the last week, but my wardrobe wishes the week could have lasted longer...

I was positively in love with Daniella Villa's collection. The retro victory rolls and vintage-inspired make-up looked fantastic with the modern, glamourous dresses. Each had very unique details: I loved the chunky square strap, the pointed shoulders, the sequin and mesh back. The pièce de résistence was Daniella's final dress: a stunning black gown with a seductive deep V-cut and a simplistic and modern silver belt. This is the gown of any girl's dreams. Daniella wore her own design, a beautiful LBD which was anything but ordinary. Look at those see-through sleeves, heavy pleates, and dramatic shoulder details!

Another favourite of the night was Farida Lalji's collection, which was full of stunning colours and traditional designs. I loved seeing the caucasian girls in the designs; they looked so exotic and the less-traditional pinks and turquoises complimented their features so well. I can't wait to get invited to an Indian wedding so I can wear one of these beautiful pieces! (or any other event that would allow me to wear such an outfit!)

This is a blog about women's fashion, but I couldn't help but snap some photos of Soddi's collection backstage. Check out those hats! The way Solon Diego designed the shorts was very sporty, and as our cameraman pointed out, they were really cool! It's good to see a solid dose of colour in there with all that white: with all the dark leather we're seeing so far this season, something a little brighter is in order, and Soddi has delivered!

Don't these aqua blues and purples look amazing on Farida Lalji's models?

The models for Soddi's collection get a few last pointers. Do I see Mr. World Canada 2012 there in the middle??

Y!D.N.A by Andy Hoan Nguyen shows of some killer leather and an equally badass hair-do

I got a chance to briefly chat with Nina of Nina on the Moon, who wore her mother's dress (amazing right??) and some modern heels with a hair-do that I wish I could achieve! Having worn my mom's skirt the previous day, it was great to see someone else paying a tribute to moms and their sense of style!

Ivy of the Pink Spider and I. I am in love with her metal-toed heels...and really her whole look! You know how much I love classic style with a twist.

Miss World Canada 2012, Tara Teng, made an appearance and gave us a lovely interview for our Runway Diaries!

An up-and-coming designer, Guylaine Theriault, wearing one of her own creations! Keep your eyes out for this pretty lady in the future!

I'm so sad I didn't get any photos of Sofia Palmero's bathingsuit collection! The bikinis were so incredibly different from anything I've seen before- very playful and accompanied by equally playful pompom earrings (which I oddly really want..). She was such a pleasure to talk to, and I loved her outfit; turquoise and orange make a great combination. This girl proves that she was born with style! You can find photos of her collection here.

Now that Vancouver Fashion Week is coming to a close, I'll be back to my weekly posts here at Vancouver Vogue. I will keep you all updated on the VFW Runway Diaries, which will be posted very soon now. I hope the new connections I've made at VFW will bring new and exciting content to my blog in the future for all of my readers! Thank you so much to the VFW team for allowing me to join them on the incredible journey behind the scenes of Vancouver's biggest fashion event of the season!

Happy Styling! xo
