Vancouver Vogue: Year in Review 2014

2014 was definitely Vancouver Vogue's most exciting year yet! Here's a look at the top moments of the year, and the many, many, many outfits that were posted on these pages this year:

First helicopter flight...to the London Drugs Beauty Event!

There were many firsts for Vancouver Vogue in 2014, including my very first flight by helicopter (an amazing feeling and beautiful view, let me tell you!), plus my first time attending the highly anticipated London Drugs Beauty Event.

Meeting Katy Perry

This was truly one of the most amazing experiences this year! Thanks a million to COVERGIRL for inviting Vancouver Vogue to see the Prismatic World tour and meet Katy Perry, the Covergirl herself!

Walking my first runway show, Brilliant!

I'm used to watching the runways, but this was an entirely different experience! Modelling was definitely more difficult than I had expected (so much to remember!), but the avant garde make-up and hair was a blast! (Hair by Is. Salon in Yaletown. makeup by Derek Lauscher & Keleigh Evans)

Beauty Videos with London Drugs Cosmetics:

Vancouver Vogue has ventured into the world of Youtube this year! You can see all the beauty videos on London Drugs' channel here.

First WeDay Coverage:

An inspiring day covering some very inspiring people doing some truly inspirational things in the world! I tried to soak in as many wise words as possible, and truly marvelled in the energy that filled Rogers Arena with all those bright young minds!

Joining the Style By Fire Team:

Vancouver Vogue has always been a place for fashion inspiration and posts, but now you can find more beauty-related content from VV on Style By Fire's beauty column!

Vancouver Vogue styles Hamlet:

Vancouver Vogue styled what was most likely the most fashionable play in Vancouver in 2014, with clothing sponsored from local talents such as Grandi's Atelier, Nina Tan, Kitsilano Kitty's Closet, Hey Jude, and Rebecca Elizabeth Designs.

The Vancouver Vogue family grows!

Thrifting maven and owner of the online affordable luxury boutique Kitsilano Kitty's Closet joined the Vancouver Vogue family as a contributing writer at the end of 2014! You'll be seeing lots of posts from her in the New Year, so stay tuned, and find out a little more about Helen here.

Finally, a look back at the fashion that made 2014 such a thrill! Happy New Year, everyone!

New Year's Eve Glam: Outfit & London Drugs Cosmetics Contest

Ah I love the glitz and glam of New Year's Eve! I feel like glitter and sequins are a must-have for a NYE outfit, and as you'll see below, there's definitely a lot of sparkle in my NYE look for ringing in 2015.

Do you have any New Year's Resolutions for 2015? I'm working on some new goals for Vancouver Vogue that will help make 2015 our best year yet! One of my biggest resolutions is to be on Vancouver Vogue's social media every single day, posting at least once a day! I'll do my best to keep it up... What are your New Year's Resolutions?

If you'd like to see how I got the make-up look in this outfit post, the video I filmed with London Drugs Cosmetics will take you step-by-step through how to get the look. It's actually super easy, and you can find the sparkly Lise Watier liners used the make the look at London Drugs stores.

If you do try the glitter cat-eye look, make sure you share a photo of the finished look with London Drugs' #LDHolidayGlam contest...you could win a $100 gift card! See contest details for how to enter. The contest closes January 2nd, 2015 at 11:59am PST so get your entries in soon!

Holiday Style: Christmas Eve Outfit

I hope you all are having a fabulous Christmas vacation right now! I've been so busy shopping, wrapping, baking, and visiting friends & family that I hadn't had a chance to post my Christmas Eve outfit yet! Sometimes we really do need a few days to unplug from our devices; it was definitely a much-needed mini break. Christmas Eve, we got together with the extended family for a full turkey dinner, wine and craft beer gift exchange (woohoo!), and lots of catching up.

I thrifted this unique skirt a few months back, and knew immediately it would make an interesting holiday outfit. I've been overly obsessed with plaid this season, so naturally this full-length piece caught my eye among the racks of skirts in the thrift store. This is one of those pieces I felt was a bit of a 'fashion risk' when I first tried it on, but I'm very glad I brought it home with me!

Of course, no holiday look would be complete without out some sparkle, both in the form of sequins and some statement jewelry. I am head over heels right now with the trendy new double-pearl earrings that have taken the fashion world by storm lately; they are such a perfect way to add a touch of edginess to the usually simple and classic pearl earrings. If you haven't heard of jewelry brand Nobis & Grey yet, I highly recommend checking them out. They sell both these edgy pearl earrings and my eye-catching statement necklace, and if you're a thrifty fashionista like me, you'll love how gorgeous and affordable their pieces are too!

As a special surprise for you, Nobis and Grey is offering 30% their entire online store when you use the code VANVOGUE30!

Aldo Holiday A-List Event: Holiday Fashion & Accessories

Guest post by Helen Siwak of Kitsilano Kitty's Closet:

Worldwide Aldo is the go-to shop for women, from budget conscious to uber-trendy, to find up-to-date styles at great prices.  Aldo on Robson Street may have a prestigious postal code but it has the same great style and prices as the others around the city.

On November 21, Aldo partnered with newcomer Verlico and Elizabeth Manuntag aka ‘The Style Saver’ fashion blogger, to host an invite only shopping event that showcased the latest Aldo holiday collection. On hand were an especially helpful and happy staff to cater to invitee's every whim including shooting 'casual' candid's with various handheld devices.

A festive table complete with sugary snacks, chocolate and macaroons, non-alcoholic beverages (as a majority of Aldo staff are under 21 years old), a prop accessorized photo wall and a three look mini-fashion show sponsored by Turnabout Consignment which included a 'Girls Night Out', a 'Casual Date Night' and a 'Office Holiday Party' themes.

Nothing gets a group of fashion bloggers and keen shoppers moving and grooving than dance music and an additional 15% off all currently offered sale items. At the register the most popular items were blinged out knit toques in grey, large statement necklaces with rhinestones and chains, and knit turbans in jewel tones which will photograph fantastically in cold weather selfies.

In attendance were a handful of Vancouver’s top style/fashion bloggers such as Joshua Langston of The Social Life, Jessica Luxe of JessicaLuxe, Samantha Sito of Obsessive Trend Invitation,  lifestyle journalist and television host Natalie Langston, and local personality Skye Lintott of Real Housewives of Vancouver and entrepreneur who will be launching MySkyeBerryPie.com online healthy lifestyle magazine February 14, 2015.
