A Fashionable Fall Cocktail: Pumpkin Spice Moscow Mule

With a 500 square foot apartment, there's not a whole lot of room for home decor, but one thing that was a definite requirement when we were moving into this space, was a bar cart. When I found this baby at HomeSense, I was in love. It was exactly what I had been looking for! Ever since, I've been building up our bar cart supplies, curating the perfect glasses and liquors to fill it with.

When it comes to seasonal drinks, I definitely have a soft spot for fall. That's when we usually switch over from chilled white wines to deep reds, and from fun fruity cocktails to those with a bit more spice. I've written about my favourite winter cocktail, Schümli Pflümli before, and today I'm going to show you my new favourite fall cocktail, the Pumpkin Spice Moscow Mule!

The great thing about this recipe is that it's super simple - in fact, if you already know the original Moscow Mule recipe, there's not much to change! In the original Moscow Mule recipe, you would use 6 oz ginger beer. Instead, to add some pumpkin flavour, I just switched out half the ginger beer for pumpkin beer (so 3 oz of each beer). If you're not a big fan of ginger beer (like me), the added bonus of this is that the taste of ginger is also tempered a bit. I've also switched out the usual lime wedge garnish, for a stick of cinnamon and some small apple slices to really add that fall flavour.

Of course, most important of all is the iconic copper Moscow Mule mugs! After all, as I mentioned, I've been curating the perfect glasses for my bar cart for some time now. These 100% copper mugs are from Moscow Muled, handcrafted by a local Vancouver business (woohoo!), and the insides are lined with a layer of high-grade nickel. Keep an eye out for that when you're looking for Moscow Mule mugs. It's important to have that layer of nickel because copper is a heavy metal that reacts with acidic fluids (aka cocktails), and if not lined, the acidic fluids in your cocktails will cause a chemical reaction that may mean you end up ingesting too much copper. So make sure you're buying the right mugs!

And I know they're call 'Mosow Mule mugs', but let's be honest, you can put any cold cocktail in them. They're a great mug to used for any chilled cocktail because the copper transmits the icy cold experience directly to your lips and locks in the drink's coolness.

Once you've got your gorgeous copper mugs, it's time to make a cocktail (or two)!

Pumpkin Spice Moscow Mule

Directions
  1. Add ice to copper Moscow Mule mug
  2. Pour in vodka and lime juice
  3. Pour in ginger beer and pumpkin beer.
  4. Top up with a little club soda (or you can just top up with more ginger & pumpkin beer. I just find the flavours strong so I dilute it a bit.)
  5. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and apple slices

Cheers! xo
