Thrifty Thursday

Well, I have a whooole lot of thrifted finds to share with you! The Salvation Army nearest me has been a treasure trove this last month, with lots of brand name finds, and even a few vintage pieces too.

This isn't my usual style, but it was just too quirky and cute to pass up! What do you think?

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Zara Trafaluc
Section: T-shirts
What I Paid: $3.99
What it's Worth: ~ $35

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: BCBG MaxAzria
Section: Blouses (found in the XL section even though it's a M...this is why I always search the whole rack!)
What I Paid: $5.99
What it's Worth: ~$178

Sometimes, no matter how many pairs of shoes you have, you just can't say no to another pair. I've never had a pair of simple heels like these before, and I've been seeing a lot of sandals like these with only a simple front strap, so I thought I'd give it a try. Can you believe these were sitting on the shelf, brand new?? They're from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Stella & Dot: Shopping for Summer Accessories

Anyone who knows me knows that I dream of shopping in luxury, with a glass of champagne in one hand, dainty eats in the other, and an array of beautiful items to peruse. So when one of my University friends asked if I would be interested in having a Stella & Dot shopping party, naturally I got super excited. For those of you who haven't heard of Stella & Dot, they are a jewelry company who have individual stylists who  help you host a trunk show, where you can get together with your friends, family, anyone you want, and shop their newest collections in your home. The lovely ladies Chantale, Shivani, Victoria, Rebecca (of Rebecca Elizabeth Designs), Irene, Alison (of Styling My Life blog), our stylist Shannon, and my mom all came to join in on the afternoon of shopping and treats.

I was very glad to finally get a chance to use some of the pins from my Fashionable Eats board on Pinterest for the event!  With the help of my photographer/bestie, we decided on a list of girly and delectable treats: citrus sangria, lavender lemonade, earl grey scones with devonshire and jam, meringue with whipped cream and raspberries, cucumber sandwiches, and lavender cupcakes with vanilla bean frosting. YUM.

It was a truly delightful afternoon of girl time, and of course, we all walked away with some stunning new jewelry that will be sure to be show stoppers! I decided on some serious statement pieces: a necklace called the Olivia Bib, and another called the Juniper, as well as a simple yet feminine Camilla cocktail ring. These are going to be great for adding some colour to plain tops and dresses this summer!

The moral of the story? Girly days like these are a must!

Doesn't Irene just look amazing? I couldn't get over her sassy glasses and trendy collar!

UFV Absolute Style 2013 Fashion Show

Yes it's true, I've come out of my post-VFW hibernation! With my final exams of undergrad right after, and moving after that, I needed some serious downtime (well, if you can call full-time work downtime!). Seeing the University of the Fraser Valley put on their annual grad fashion show got me right back into the blogging zone, though, and I'm excited to share with you the talent I witnessed on the runway. Our very own Vancouver Vogue dress designer, Rebecca of Rebecca Elizabeth designs was even showing her collection! I had goosebumps seeing her collection on the runway; her portion of the show was set to Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray (from the Great Gatsby soundtrack), which was fitting, since her bridal collection featured vintage glamour of the 20's. You'll hear more about her collection in my interview with her in the coming weeks! Another one to watch is Kassandra of Kassinka Designs, whose collection featured stunning designs with a nod to her Russian heritage. I'm so glad she is bringing muffs back! What a perfect addition to a stunning and feminine collection of bright, primary colours and lace. You can expect an interview with her as well coming soon!

The show itself had many different featured program elements, including shows dedicated to bustiers, swimsuits, surface design, weaving, as well as the individual grad collections. I wish I could share them all with you, but I've narrowed it down to my favourites (and those without people's heads in the way!).

Myself, I opted for a very bright combination of colours for the event, because it's officially nice enough out to to wear them and not feel the least bit out of place! I am loving adding my yellow neon accessories to my outfits right now, and as you can see here, this look was no exception. Don't be afraid to add a strong dose of colour to your look!
