Bell Sleeves are Here to Stay!

With the exception of trying to cook or wash dishes while wearing them, I am really starting to love the bell sleeve trend. They have such a nice feminine flair, and really jazz up any kind of top.

This bell sleeve top from SheIn is extra sweet, with little crochet inserts mid-sleeve and detailing on the trim of the sleeves. How cute! And it's only $15!! As you probably know quite well by now, I have a not-so-small obsession with plaid, so that's also part of the reason I fell in love with this particular bell-sleeved top. I know it's not exactly a spring wardrobe item though, so I plan on getting plenty of use out of it now, before the season changes (and judging by the fact that we got a huge dump of snow in Vancouver this past week, I think it's safe to stay winter is sticking around).

I'm actually surprised this navy coat hasn't graced the blog until now. I thrifted it at the end of last season, and let me tell you, it is hands-down one of the most exciting thrift finds for me. Not because it's expensive, but because I have been hoping to find this exact style of coat for a couple years now, and couldn't believe I managed to thrift it for $5.99! I wasn't hunting for it, but it was one of those things I'd kept in the back of my mind. Just goes to show, you never know when you're going to find that gem you've been looking for!

On Wednesday February 28th, We Wear Pink...for Pink Shirt Day!

I know this won't come as a shocking statement to most: the internet is not always a kind place. I'm sure you or someone you know has likely experienced some sort of negativity online: harassment, rumour spreading, having your personal life exposed, or even receiving threats.

As a blogger, I'm hyper-aware of how people can cruel online. Anonymity definitely seems to make it easy. But, let's not get all down and dreary. The fact is, we may not be able to control what people say online, but we can control how it affects us, and how we react to it (if at all).

Pink Shirt Day falls on February 28th this year. If you haven't heard of it before, Pink Shirt Day is all about making a collective statement against bullying - originally started by 2 students in Nova Scotia who wore pink in solidarity after a fellow student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. For 2018, the message for Pink Shirt Day is: 'Nice Needs No Filter', which encourages us to take a stand against cyberbullying.

To show your support, you can buy your official Pink Shirt Day t-shirt at London Drugs (the exclusive retailer of the shirts), and the net proceeds will be distributed through the CKNW Orphan's Fund, in support of youth anti-bullying programs in BC and throughout Western Canada, including the Boys & Girls Clubs across BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. And then of course, you'll want to wear your official pink shirt on February 28th to stand with the rest of us against cyberbullying!

Let's encourage everyone, no matter what age they are, to think twice before posting something negative online. Instead, let's use the internet to spread kindness! Because nice needs no filter.

Inspired to join us? I've got some Pink Shirt Day style inspiration for you below, with fellow blogger Leeanne of LegalLee Blonde! You can head over to her blog to see the details for her Pink Shirt Day outfit.

We hope you'll join us in wearing an official Pink Shirt Day tee on February 28th to show you stand up to cyberbullying!

Rose Gold / Rose Blonde Hair Tutorial

I have definitely played around with hair colour way more in the last year than I have in my entire life! Why? Because temporary hair colours have gotten way better. I used to be pretty hesitant when a product claimed to be 'temporary', because with blonde hair, it never seems to be as temporary as it should be. But with L'Oreal's Colorista Spray 1-Day Colours, they really are!! You may have already seen my beauty video with London Drugs on the Pantone Colour of the Year Ultra Violet, where I used the Purple Colorista Spray. After using that one, I was so excited to try more colours.

So...when I caught wind that rose gold hair (also known as rose blonde hair) was going to be a big trend for 2018, I immediately knew I wanted to use the Colorista Spray in Rose Gold in a new video with London Drugs. Watch the video below to see how it turned out (spoiler alert: you're doing to want to run out and buy 10 cans!! Although it only took one and a bit for this look.).

I find with these sprays, they look better on hair that's curled, so I used the brand new Conair Infiniti Pro Meta e Meta to add some loose waves to the look. I am a huge fan of the Conair Infiniti Pro Curl Secret from years ago, so I was super keen to give this newer model a try. This one has both the capabilities of a curling iron and a flat iron in one, which is really cool. But really, I was most interested in the curling function. I'm glad to say, it's much improved over the earlier model. No more catching my hair! I still totally love the Curl Secret, but of course it's nice that the Meta e Meta improved on that. I find it's not as temperamental; if I put a bit too much or too little hair in, it still comes out curled.

If you're wondering in the video why I spray my hair with colour first before curling it, instead of the other way around, it's because I like to brush through the colour in order to blend it in better. If I curl my hair first, then I end up just brushing out the curls.

Anyway, watch the video to see the whole how-to! And when you're ready to give it a try? You can find everything you need for the look at London Drugs.

What to Wear to a Business Conference

This post came about after I found myself challenged to pair an outfit for exactly that: a business conference. To be exact, it was actually a university conference for students to connect with business professionals in the marketing industry.

I was invited as a 'business delegate' to engage with the students and help answer questions and offer insight about my experiences in the PR/marketing industry. While the students were at the conference all day for various talks and workshops, the business delegates were only required during the dinner and networking portion of the evening. I figured even though I would only be there for the evening event, it was best to err on the side of caution and still go with business attire, rather than more cocktail/business attire. In these situations, you can't go wrong with cautious! But my challenge was to somehow jazz my outfit up a bit.

I did want to change things up a bit, and not go with a boring old black suit with white blouse. After all, if you're networking, you want to be memorable! So while I stuck with my black BCBG dress pants (thrifted from Value Village), I switched out the usual white blouse for a structured tunic with front tie. And instead of a so-so black blazer, I instead subbed it out for this tuxedo-esque white and contrasting black lapel accent blazer.

Of course, the most important accessory here is the glasses. Even before I really needed glasses (at least not this much), I loved wearing them for school and work because I felt like they made me appear more focused and attentive. These new rose gold Kam Dhillon Park Avenue glasses from Clearly have just the right look - unique enough to make a statement (again, you want to be memorable), without being too over-the-top.

Really though, I guess your most important accessory is your business cards...

Avocado for Breakfast...and For Your Hair!

I've jumped on the avocado train like every other good Millennial. When I was a kid, I never liked it - or at least, never thought I would like it. Man, did I miss out! Now I eat avocado toast for breakfast most days, and eat guacamole like a fiend. When Garnier's new Fructis Hair Treats with Avocado Extract arrived in the mail, I was all over it! Woohoo, more avocado!!

The new Fructis Hair Treats are Garnier's first 98% naturally derived hair masks, that are enriched with super fruits (yum - they sure smell fruity!) and can be used 3 different ways, to smoothen, strengthen, repair, revive colour and nourish your hair:
  1. As a hair mask. After shampoo, apply to your wet hair and leave on for 1 minute. Then rinse.
  2. A a conditioner. After shampoo, apply to your hair from root to tip. Then rinse.
  3. As a leave-in. Apply to your damp hair to control frizz for super smooth hair!

I decided to use it as a leave-in conditioner, since I've never actually used one before. I've always figured they would make my super fine hair heavy and greasy. But I figured hey, let's give it a try! So I hopped in the shower, did my usual shampoo and then conditioner routine, then hopped out of the shower, towel dried my hair, and then applied the Hair Treats. I first applied to my fingers and then ran them through my hair.

Well, obviously the Hair Treats with Avocado gave me a craving for...you guessed it, avocado! So I whipped up some avocado toast to munch on while my hair partially air dried. Then I used my hair dryer to finish it off. My hair felt fantastic and smelled oh-so-good! Like waaay better than just after a regular shower. That was definitely one of the benefits of using the Hair Treats as a leave-in. And of course, the other benefit being that my hair was nice and smooth. As you may have noticed in my outfit photos lately, my hair has been way more frizzy than normal (thanks for nothing, winter). So I have a feeling I'm going to be turning to this as a daily solution!

Are you avocado obsessed too? You've go to give this a try!
