Trip to the Pumpkin Patch!

I've been wanting to do a trip to the pumpkin patch for years now; it's definitely been a long, long time! So I headed to Aldor Acres with the bestie to relive our childhood (and rock some pumpkin patch appropriate outfits, of course).

The farm features a full pumpkin patch, hay ride tour, petting zoo...even a FARMacy (haha) to pick up farm fresh veggies and Grandma Anderson's homemade preserves. Yum.

We sipped some apple cider, and then took a hayride over to the pumpkin patch to find our prized pumpkins!

Halloween Glam: American Horror Story Hotel's The Countess

And the last of my Halloween costumes for this year...The Countess (a la Lady Gaga) from American Horror Story Hotel. This one was a total blast to create- from the makeup to the costume. Again, the recently lightened blonde hair made this look even easier. But of course, the most important part of this costume is the glove! If you haven't seen the show yet, just take my word for it that it's a highlight of most episodes.

The awesome guy working at Value Village went searching for a silver/grey glove that I was hoping to find, and ended up finding this amazing set of sequinned gloves. Talk about a perfect find! It didn't have the metallic claws, though, so I found myself some black plastic nails, painted them in Essie's No Place Like Chrome, and super glued them to the tips of the gloves. The brooch was a last minute touch from my own jewelry chest. Oh and those glittery dots of blood? I found an awesome set of glam vampire stickers at Value Village. The perfect touch.

As for the dress and cape blazer, I had them both in my closet already from Vancouver Fashion Week earlier this year. It's always great to have an excuse to use those again!

Of course, Lady Gaga's signature beauty look in the show is her bleached brows, shadow cat-eye and ombre vampy lips. NYX's V'amped Up! Lip Top Coat was the perfect way to create the ombre vampire lip look. Just apply it all around the edges of your applied red lipstick and smudge in!

Last Minute Halloween Costume: iZombie

My recent hair colour change (I'm calling it 'baby blonde'-it's the white blonde colour I had when I was a baby!) has opened some new doors for Halloween costumes this year. I've been dutifully watching iZombie lately- it's filmed right here in Vancouver, after all, and thought the main character Liv Moore, would make a perfect last minute Halloween costume! Of course, if your hair isn't as light as mine, a wig will do just fine.

By the name of the TV show, you can probably tell that Liv is indeed a zombie. She also works in the coroner's office (hence the lab coat) and eats brains with hot sauce. Because that's what zombies do. Oh and key zombie characteristics in the show are bleached hair and purple around the eyes. Easy!

I didn't have a lab coat on hand, so I ended up wearing a white blazer under a long white vest (seen here). The rest was pretty easy: a t-shirt, sweatshirt, jeans, ankle boots....oh and a ziploc container with some brains and chopsticks.

Brains, anyone?

Halloween Glam: Cruella de Vil

Ah, yes, it's that time of year again! Halloween is just around the corner, and if you're anything like me, you didn't start planning early enough...and are now feeling a bit strapped for time. Time to start searching!

I've always loved being creative with my costumes, incorporating both new and old elements together to create my vision. I usually go with a few ideas in mind when I start searching, and this year, my top costume ideas were Cruella de Vil, The Contessa from American Horror Story Hotel, and Liv Moore from iZombie.

So I headed over to Value Village (of course- you know this is my usual shopping sweet spot) to see what I could find! I always start by looking through the thrifted clothes first, and then follow up with a look through their brand new Halloween items to fill in the blanks with that I couldn't find amongst the thrifted clothes. I found the perfect vintage fur coat that fit the bill for Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations, and a LBD and red heels to match...then I headed over to the new Halloween section to find a cigarette holder, red gloves, and a wig. There wasn't a half white half black wig, so I also picked up a can of hair spray colour in black for a little DIY hair 'do. And voilà! A fabulous fashion-forward costume ready for Halloween.

If you're looking for a costume on a budget, your best bet is to check out Value Village- it was absolutely packed when I was there on the weekend! Need some costume inspiration? I'd recommend browsing their new bagged costumes- sometimes these will spark an awesome idea, and then you can search the thrifted items to re-create it!

Fort Langley Cranberry Festival

Let me start by saying that this fall's style trend is all about the blanket scarf, and perhaps this is more of a warning, but you're going to be seeing an awful lot of them here on the blog this season, because yours truly is obsessed with blanket scarves in every colour, fabric, and cut. If you have to ask why, then I seriously recommend throwing one over your fall outfit and you'll completely understand. Comfy and chic? Yes, please!

In honour of the annual Fort Langley Cranberry Festival, which gets bigger and busier every year, I thought I'd style some cranberry shades to match. I always find this event really puts me in the fall mood, eating cranberry kettle corn, admiring creative pumpkin centrepieces, finding all kinds of handmade local goods, and of course, buying fresh bags of cranberries (for home-made cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving dinner!). One of my all-time favourite Cranberry Festival activities is tasting some tire - boiling pure maple syrup poured on a bed of snow and then rolled onto a stick, hardened- from Maples' Sugar Shack. A quintessentially Canadian treat I wait all year for. If you haven't been before, mark  your calendars for October 9th, 2016!
