#STBC: Shop The Blogger Closet Sale

On March 29th, we set up shop at Frontier Luxury Flooring in Vancouver for the first-ever Shop the Blogger Closet Sale! We have over 300 shoppers pass through the pop-up shop, even with the torrential downpour that was happening that weekend. Wow! And it was pretty exciting to see our pre-loved items being sold to wonderful new owners.

Stephanie Trembath, blogger of Minimalist-St.Me and founder of the STBC sale collaborated with UBC's Social Work Program to raise money for a small community in Arviat, Nunavut, and together we raised over $500 for the Young Hunters Program! The proceeds will go towards funding staff and materials to educate the Arviat community on environmental health and economic vitality.

The whole event smelled totally amazing thanks to Vancouver Candle Co., who set up shop at the event as well. I went over and of course had to sniff every single candle (you can never have enough candles), and must say my favourite was definitely the Fairview, a sharp citrus scent with a hint of sweetness.

Even if you weren't able to come check it out and shop our closets, you can still always get inspired and see where you can shop our outfits via our blogs:

Big thanks to sponsors Frontier Luxury Flooring, Daily Secret, Verlico and Happy Water for helping make the event such a success!

Spring Sorbet: Fresh & Sweet Colour Inspiration

It's that time of year where we all starting cleaning out our closets: switching out the faux furs and plaids (well, in my case, anyways) for fresh whites, brights, and pastels. So the Style By Fire gals Aurora Chan and Miranda Sam, Samantha Sito, and I pulled our pastels out of storage, and got together for a fun spring photoshoot with Jason of Aparte Photography!

I've always been cautious with wearing a lot of white or pastels for the obvious reason that paleness usually just makes it all look very, well, white, but lately I've been playing around with light colours again. I think I just need to stop worrying about what I think might not look good, and test out some new colour combos!

The beginning of a season is a great time to reassess your wardrobe, and maybe add some new styles or colours to the mix that you haven't tried (or been afraid to try) before. If you pick something in the store and think "hmm I shouldn't.." maybe it's still worth trying on! It's like when I go thrift shopping: if I'm ever in doubt, I still try it on, because you really can't tell when it's just on the hanger.

Don't forget to play around with draping and textures too! I loved Aurora's vinyl mint pencil skirt, Samantha's draped skirt, and Miranda's killer gladiator sandals. All awesome, fun elements that added some character to the usual "spring pastels".

Vancouver Fashion Week FW 2015: Day 7

Ah the final day of coverage for the Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015 season! And reflecting on the week's worth of extraordinary designs, it definitely was inspiring. On Day 7, my favourite designs of the evening came from Alcoolique, Jackson Rowe and Zuzana Hrubos: quite a variety of different styles.

Alcoolique was such a cheeky collection: the makeup was bold, the designs were fun and flirty! I was a big fan of the dress you'll see below with the white hearts. What a cute detail! The sheerness of the blouse definitely offsets the sweetness of the full skirt and soft details.

This might not be my usual style, as it's obviously quite casual with a bohemian flair, but there was something about the way Jackson Rowe's scarves draped and billowed as the models walked the runway that had me hooked! It made me remember how versatile a scarf can be: how it can be layered, worn as an accessory, or rather as another item of clothing. Add the sweet yet casual knee highs and suede booties to the mix and this look is definitely ready-to-wear right off the runway!

Probably the most futuristic show of the FW 2015 season was Zuzana Hrubos' collection "Pulse". Obviously, my first thought when the models hit the runway was 'Tron!', as all the looks were designed with integrated optical fibres. The designs also contained electro magnetic shielding textiles to protect the wearer against wifi and cell phone waves, you know, in case that's something you're ever worried about. I told you, it's futuristic fashion alright! I was particularly fascinated by this collection because I actually really wanted to make my own Tron costume for Halloween last year, and did some research on how to get the suit to glow - and let me tell you it is apparently no easy process, which is why I gave up on the idea - so kudos to Zuzana Hrubos for making these techie designs a reality.

Also, make sure to check out the video coverage of my week at VFW below so you can see a whole bunch of other amazing designs that graced the runways this season:

for the runway photos!

Many of you may recognize this Kassinka skirt from this recent post, but I just couldn't resist pulling it out again for this momentous week of fashion! I felt like I'd been wearing a bit too much black and white so far, so a solid dose of colour was definitely in order for the final day of VFW. From experimenting with items in my closet, I found that I actually quite liked combining neons and pastels together, so I opted to pair the pastel skirt with a flowy neon shirt and neon nails. I love how it makes everything pop. If you're feeling uninspired by your pastels this spring, try infusing the look with a splash of neon too!

With the fabulous Vicki Duong of Flirty and Frugal: isn't her comic-inspired outfit bang on??

Vancouver Fashion Week FW2015: Day 6

Once again, I picked out 3 of my favourite designers from all the runway shows at Vancouver Fashion Week on Day 6, who turned out to be: Lawrence Pirnay, Michelle Lesniak, and Gala Limon. All had superb collections that made me wish I could own each and every one of their designs. Such a great variety of textures, patterns and cuts, Day 6 brought a whole lot of inspiration our way!

Easily one of the most anticipated designers of the week was Michelle Lesniak, winner of Project Runway Season 11. You know me, I'm a sucker for retro style, so obviously I was a big fan of the vintage swimsuits that graced the runway. The nautical rope detailing was a great touch, and made me wonder why I've never seen anything like it before! Oh man, this really gets me excited about nautical style for summer... Plus, you'll see the bikini pictured below features Michelle's 'falling upwards' hot air balloon print- too cute!

Gala Limon's Mexican Fairies collection was packed full of sweet, flowy, ready-to-wear dresses, tops and skirts that made me wish I could blink and find them in my closet! My favourite is the pastel purple/pink dress you'll see below. The laser cut details were a unique touch, and the dress swayed beautifully as the model walked the runway. Such an easy, breezy, chic design!

My favourite show of the night, Laurence Pirnay, had a wide range of styles hit the runway, including a fun fringe, 3-D dress, chic cape, and a mix of flowing prints. As I've been completely enamoured by capes lately, the second I spotted the full length cape dress you'll see below, my eyes opened wide. What a beauty! So elegant and refined, that style is right up my alley. Even better was the ever-so-subtle diamond pattern along the cape and dress hemline: lovely detailing!

Thanks to Kuna Photography for the runway photos!

I had a lot of fun with my Day 6 outfit for Vancouver Fashion Week! I've been patiently waiting to wear this massive piece of statement jewellery that I picked up back in December...and finally the day has come. It's a pretty busy necklace, so I figured the rest of the outfit should be all-black, to make it really stand out. But of course, you know me, I can never go with no colour: hence the red lips!

Twins! Another fashion week attendee with the same style in mind!
