Inspiration: New Years Eve Look

It's time to decide what you're wearing for New Years eve! If you invested in a statement top like I did this season, you can transition it from Christmas-dinner classy to party-ready: two looks in one! Take this gold sequin peplum top I got from Bebe. I saw it on a girl while at Society in Yaletown, and HAD to find it! Luckily, I found it after doing a mad google search on sale at Bebe in Vancouver. For Christmas dinner with the family, I wore the top with my Zara pencil skirt, and black tights. For New Years though, I started thinking about how I could jazz it up a little. My thoughts? Switch out the skirt for some black leggings! It'll make the look that much sexier- and amp up the hotness that much more by adding in some platform heels! I found some really cute ones at Forever 21 for only $25!

Once you have your statement top and NYE outfit planned, it's time to start thinking about changing up your makeup routine. For a dramatic NYE look, try me of these killer styles:

Look of the Week: Christmas Colours

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday! It was go-go-go this week: buying presents, baking, working and spending time with friends and family. I made a trip out today to do some Boxing Day shopping and found a few deals (deals seem to be harder to find these days), and now it's time for some R&R! We stopped by Fort Langley for some much needed High Tea à la Little White House and then took a stroll past the infamous Fort Langley Hall (Seen in Once Upon a Time, Air Bud, Supernatural, and host of other TV shows and movies!).

The holiday season is not over quite yet though, so neither is dress-up season! (Well, you know I will dress up all year round, but now especially!) Here's a girly way to dress up your wardrobe: buy yourself a crinoline! Combine it with an appropriate skirt, add a sweater, and you're lookin' holiday-ready in no time. I've already told you I'm a huge fan of these Aldo wedge boots, and pairing them with black tights elongates the legs (who wouldn't want that??). A moto jacket cinches perfectly to create a waist-defining effect.

As for your New Years outfit, I've got some inspiration on how to transition your Christmas look to NYE  party-ready, coming to you this weekend!

Look of the Week: German Christmas Market

It may have poured rain all day, but somehow the Vancouver German Christmas Market still managed to feel like a winter wonderland! We made an obligatory stop at the apple cider/mulled wine cabin before feasting our eyes on all the German comfort food and treasures. If you're looking for some unique Christmas gifts, you should take a peek; I even found a few things for a particularly difficult family member to shop for. The potato pancakes were delicious, as were the baked apples and maple taffy. I was extremely excited when we stumbled upon a cabin featuring the Yaletown boutique Fine Finds, featuring their latest wintery accessories. I recently listed the boutique as one of my top shops for unique Christmas gifts on the Surrey Tourism blog 45in45, and I even made an impulse buy on an adorable knitted headband while we were there. Angelina's Closet also had a few items to share with us, including the sparkling bracelets you see below. They come in all kinds of other gorgeous colours, but me and the bestie/photographer picked out this one as our favourite! It turns out to be quite fitting: that one is called 'Vancouver Sunrise'!

While my poor toes were frozen by the end of the day, it was well worth it for the vintage Christmas vibe (and the comment someone made about following the yellow brick road). I told you about how great berets can be for classing up a winter outfit in my last Look of the Week, so here's another way to add the French hat to your look. I brought out the classic colour palette of cream and brown for the first time in quite a while; the outfit has much warmer tones than my usual grey and black. And here's something else to try- a cocktail ring over your gloves! You'll probably need to pick up a pair of vintage gloves for this to work (much thinner than most gloves today); I'm sure you could thrift a pair for cheap. It just gives a dainty feminine touch to your outerwear, which will surely be noticed with your hands wrapped around a hot cup of apple cider!

Thrifty Thursday

This week's Thrifty Thursday will not disappoint! You really don't know what's out there until you starting searching...

I have no clue if this bag is real or not, and I tend to think it may not be, but I really don't know how to tell! It definitely has some wear and tear, but it's the closest I'll get to one of these LVs for a very long time. I do like the classic colour scheme; you'll see how I style it in next week's Look of the Week!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Louis Vuitton
Section: Bags & Purses
What I Paid: $7.99
What its Worth: (if it's the real deal) ~ $450

Now here is a perfect example of why you should ALWAYS try it on...even if you're not 100% sure of it. I feel like a bond girl in this dress. No need for any extra bling here; it's all right there! I love how back is open to make up for the conservative front and a long slit up the back will let me show off my heels-of-choice. I did a little research on the brand, and ALGO is a Swiss high fashion brand that has been around since 1917!

Now, if only I had an event to where this to...

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: ALGO
Section: Dresses
What I Paid: $8.99
What it's Worth: ~ $80

I immediately knew how I was going to style this skirt when I saw it on the rack: Big cozy sweater and opaque tights with my new Aldo suede wedge ankle boots! I love the edginess of the contrasting gold zipper with the femininity of the ruffles.

Look of the Week: My Red Beret

Let the end-of-exams celebration begin! With the daylight lasting what feels like only a few hours, and the rain coming down on a regular basis, it seems inevitable that we start moving indoors for some photo-taking: and where better than my favourite fashionable hangout in Vancouver, Thierry? PS. Today, we tried chocolate pistachio, maple pecan, and cranberry macarons..and the maple pecan was by far the tastiest! (A box of these would make a great addition to a Christmas gift, too!)

This is my official go-to outfit for looking casual chic: an oversized sweater, leggings, ankle boots, and red lipstick. For anyone looking for some ankle boots that are fashion-forward yet practical enough for walking around, I highly recommend these Aldo Miggins wedges. I thought they were a little tight when I first bought them, but having walked around all over Vancouver in them, they are super comfortable and surprisingly easy the run in (I always seem to be running for a bus)! Also, I have an arsenal of berets ready for adding a touch of class to any outfit: I suggest having them in basic colours like red, white and black so that they can go with anything. It's a great substitute for a toque, which is sometimes a bit too casual for an outing. If you're in the Vancouver area, check out Granville Island: they have a great little hat shop, and it's where I found myself a very affordable white beret awhile back.
