I chose to head down Water Street in Gastown this past Friday to take some pictures along the cobblestone walkways. Gastown is a great historic area of Vancouver, and it boasts all kinds of great places to eat and shop. Plus if you take a peek between the old brick buildings to the north, you can see a breathtaking view of the snow capped mountains.
The hat I'm wearing here is actually my grandfather's. I love the tweed fabric, and the red feather is the perfect touch. You can find all kinds of classic accessories by looking through your grandparents' old things. You've already seen another one of such finds: my red beret, which was given to me by my Nana. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's out of style!
Sometimes its hard to dress stylish while still keeping warm this time of year. My advice: layer! It's easy to slip into the routine of always throwing on my warm pea coat, but I stayed just as warm in my look this week: all that's necessary is a few more pieces from your closet!

Fashionable Eats: Cafe Latte Cupcakes
What better to have on a cold day but a hot cup of coffee...or if you're not much of a coffee fan, substitute it for this tasty little sweet! I got the 500 Cupcakes book for my birthday from one of my best friends/photographer this year, and I've been working my way through it one cupcake at a time! These cupcakes were a lot of work (mostly the marshmallow foam), but they definitely paid off. I highly recommend picking up the pink book and trying it out for yourself.
Essentially, the cupcakes are vanilla, with a coffee and chocolate frosting, and topped off with whipped marshmallow for the foam. Sprinkle on a little chocolate powder for added effect.
Happy baking!

Look of the Week: First Snow Day
It's here! The first real snowfall of the season fell last night, and made for a beautiful winter wonderland today. I go to university on a mountain, so it was much snowier here than everywhere else in Vancouver. Due to being stuck at school until 10 last night because of the snow, I decided to bundle up this morning...no more wearing flats! The great thing about this coat is the neckline. The high collar means you can go without a scarf and still keep your neck nice and warm. It even keeps your face out of the cold if you do the 'turtle'! My boots were originally folded over at the top, but I cut the elastics holding them down to make them thigh-highs! Now they keep me that much warmer: especially when I add thigh-high socks!
My Nana's beret, which I also wore here, is making a comeback this week. It gets a lot of use in the winter months; I'm not a big fan of tuques, so this hat is the perfect fix! Not to mention it's my favourite colour. If you're looking for a classy fall alternative to the tuque, this is a great one!Happy styling!

Fall Colour Sheme: Inspiration
I thought I'd share with you some colour inspiration on this cool autumn Tuesday. This isn't necessarily the palette you'll see in magazines right now, but I've been noticing it more and more in stores and on fashion blogs lately. The palette consists of pale/dull pink, grey, and cream. The colours are delicate and sweet, and feel perfectly cozy when cuddling up with a book, some macarons, and some tea. Below are some images I've collected to get you inspired...

P.S. the last 2 pictures are from Tumblr from along time ago; if you know where they're from, let me know and I'll give them photo cred!

Look of the Week: Fall Flavour
Me and my photographer took a trip to Stanley Park last week. Our goal was to get some photos that really captured the fall atmosphere at its best: brightly colored leaves, crisp air...and of course we can't forget the rain (this is Vancouver, remember). I used to go to Stanley Park a lot more as a kid, so it was great to just wander along the paths and take it all in again.
I wanted to put a spotlight on the quintessential fashion item of the fall season: the trench coat! This one has little ruffles on the top and bottom, which gives it an exponentially more girly feel. I am a big fan of beige and ivory this season (as you will see in my upcoming Fall Colours post), and the jacket and sweater are two of my current favorites.
My boots have being getting a lot of attention since I picked them up from Zellers a few weeks ago. Yes, that's right: Zellers! I hadn't been there in years, but they feature a few different really stylish footwear options, which are also SO much cheaper. It just so happens that Steve Madden has an almost identical pair of boots to mine, but they're charging $20 more than what I got mine for! They've got a bit of a heel to them, but I've been wearing them non-stop and they're actually quite comfy. This style of lace-up boot is all over the stores this season, so if you're looking for a pair, you won't have to look far!
Lastly, this was a test-run for a hair-do I've been meaning to try for a while. The volume I got was thanks to some super cheap, plastic doughnut-shaped sponges I picked up from the dollar store. You just snake your ponytail through the center and arrange the hair around it, keeping together with an elastic around the sponge. If you need more step-by-step instructions, just ask! It really only takes a few minutes to do once you've tried it once or twice.
