Tips for Packing Light: Him & Her

It's that time of year, when the weather is great, and you just want to pack a quick overnight bag and hit the road for a little summer getaway! Menswear brand Paul Fredrick asked if I would put together some tips for packing light with versatile outfits made from 8 key pieces, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to challenge my own over-packing tendencies and see what I could come up with. Below, you'll find my top light packing tips, as well as my favourite clothing pieces for a summer getaway:

Crop top & shorts - Forever 21 | Maxi dress - Boohoo | Skirt - Michael Kors | Leaf belt - Boohoo |  Necklace - Forever 21 | Hat - Forever 21 |  Sandals - Aldo | Heels - Le Chateau

Packing Light Tip #1: Have a common colour scheme
The easiest way to minimize your wardrobe for a short getaway is to make sure all your clothing items matching a colour scheme in some way. By doing this, you'll be able to mix and match outfits to give your looks more versatility

Packing Light Tip #2: Include 1 option of dressy shoes and casual shoes
A good pair of dress shoes or heels can instantly take your outfit from day to night. Don't believe me? Give it a try. Pair your cotton maxi dress with flip flops, and you're ready for the beach; pair the same dress with heels and you're instantly looking dressy enough for a nice date night dinner. Same goes for mens dress shoes and sandals: even if you're wearing shorts!

Packing Light Tip #3: Pack key accessories
Accessories can also help take your look from day to night, extending the versatility of your day-wear. Add a statement necklace or elegant belt to your overnight bag, and you'll be able to add a bit of elegance to your casual outfits. Same goes for simply adding a tie to a dress shirt! Wear a dress shirt without tie and sleeves rolled up during the day, roll down the sleeves in the evening and add a tie: violà!

Packing Light Tip #4: Pick styles that mix & match well
Bringing a crop top along? If you have high waisted shorts for daytime, you could switch out the shorts for a high waisted skirt for the evening. If you plan on only bringing dress shirts along, make sure any bottoms you bring are equally dressy (no board shorts here!). Linen is a great option that looks laid back yet classy.
