Snow Bunny Beauty Essentials

We're spending our Valentine's this year up at Sun Peaks Ski Resort, and since it's been a couple years since I've hit the slopes, I'm pretty excited to get my ski/snowboard on!

Sweater - Tommy Hilfiger (similar, similar) | Toque - Aldo (similar)

It also inspired me to put together a curated collection of beauty essentials that will keep your skin looking its best while you're on the top of the mountain. There are 2 key things to keep in mind while you're on the slopes: protecting your skin from the sun (that fresh new powder reflects the sun right back onto you), and keeping your skin hydrated and protected from the harsh cold and wind. And once you're off the hill and thawing out après ski, you'll likely want to get that toque-hair under control, and soothe those tired muscles too.

Hydration:

On a normal day, the cold winter weather often plays havoc on our skin. Now put yourself on top of a mountain and add some whipping winds and snow, and your skin is put under even harsher conditions. To avoid dry, chapped skin, I apply Juviance's Skin Rescue Intense Repair Cream all over my face the night before and morning of to keep dry skin at bay. Same goes for the Bioderma Atoderma PP Baume (available at London Drugs); I apply to spots on my body that tend to be drier in the winter (for some reason this year, that seems to be the inside of my knees and elbows). The formula is an anti-itching emollient balm that will provide comfort all day. I'll keep my Bioderma Atoderm Lips moisturizing stick (available at London Drugs) on hand to apply once we're off the hill too, to soothe and repair my damaged and dehydrated lips. This is my favourite lip chap formula!

Sun Protection:

There's nothing worse than a google tan - or in my case - a goggle burn! Even on a somewhat cloudy day on the slopes, the sun can reflect off the snow and give you a pretty nasty sun burn. My absolute favourite facial sunscreen is the Lise Watier Sun Smart UV Shield (available at London Drugs); its 30 SPF formula goes on super smooth and non-greasy, and makes the most fantastic makeup base too! Your lips need protection from the sun as well, and my favourite from last summer is RoC's Soleil Protexion Plus Lip Balm (available at London Drugs) with SPF 30.

Toque Hair:

After a successful day on the slopes, once you take off the gear and pull of your toque...it's kind of a disaster under there. My hair is always matted, tangled and frizzy. The best way to prep your hair beforehand is to apply a primer like Frizz Ease's Forever Smooth Anti-Frizz Primer (available at London Drugs) the will help keep frizz at bay during the day. Apply it to wet hair, distributing evenly throughout from mid-shaft to tips: no need to rinse!

If you need a quick fix after you pull off your toque, the Conair Infiniti Pro Ultimate Brush (available at London Drugs) will get rid of any static or frizz in just one swipe! This super cool brush is battery-operated and uses ion technology to eliminate static and frizz as you brush through your hair. I love that it's wireless, so you can bring it pretty much anywhere.

Sore Muscles:

When you haven't snowboarded or skied in a few years like me, you can pretty much guarantee you're going to be sore once you get back out there. If a hot tub isn't within reach, then a balm like Theo10 Heat can soothe your aching muscles. This long lasting muscle rub is also water resistant, 100% natural and lasts up to 12 hours, plus it's compact enough to pop in your pocket. I love the smell too - a strong fresh mint scent.

Now you're prepped and ready to go for your winter getaway! What are your beauty essentials before hitting the slopes?

#LDBeauty Event 2015

Among the beauty community in Vancouver, #LDBeauty is the most highly anticipated event of the year! And for good reason. London Drugs beauty vendors gather under one glamorous roof to give bloggers and media a sneak peek at their brand new fall 2015 products. And let me tell you, this fall will bring a whole pile of revolutionary and must-have beauty products you'll want to add to your daily regimen!

Follow along to see the best new beauty products for fall, from makeup to skincare, hair and gadgets:

New in Makeup:

I've got my work cut out for me! Lots of new eye palettes to try out, and lipsticks galore. The NYX high voltage lipstick are actually already in store, and I'm loving their bold colour pay-off. Vibrant lipsticks are my favourite! Revlon also freshened up our lips at the event with their newest Ultra HD Lip Lacquer. I tried the shade Tourmaline, nice hot pink that wasn't at all sticky!

If you're looking for a way to change up your eye look for a night out, L'Oreal's new Miss Manga Rock is a mascara that actually means to clump your lashes- in order to give you an overloaded lash look with a soft spiked finish. You can see on the poster below how it looks.

If you haven't heard of or tried Emani Cosmetics you really must! The whole line is vegan friendly, and includes a whole list of extracts that are great for your skin: Emani's founder Michelle Doan would know, she's suffered from cystic acne most of her life, and developed the line of cosmetics specifically for women with super sensitive skin. Their Perfect 10 Primer Serum is seriously the best primer you'll ever try.

New in Skincare:

I've already started my completely revamped cleansing routine, using the Silk'n SonicCleanPlus brush, and Neostrata Acne Clear collection (coming soon to London Drugs), and it feels good to finally have a proper adult way of cleaning my face. I say adult, because up until now, I've pretty much just used whatever face wash was on sale...needless to say, it's been a big upgrade!

I'm also looking forward to trying out Jergens' Moisturizer for Wet Skin; I've never been one to put tons of moisturizer on, but after test it at the LDBeauty event, I think it'll be the perfect way to keep my skin refreshed after all the sun exposure this summer.

If I do decide I need a little more colour this summer (and let's be honest, I've pretty much given up all hope in that department), the St. Tropez folks recommend trying the St. Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan, since it's more subtle and easier to build a tan over time. Plus, application would be way easier in the shower, especially for someone like myself who has no idea what they're doing...

New in Hair:

There are some really cool new things coming out for hair in Fall 2015! I am by far the most excited for the Remington T|Studio PROtect Straightener, which actually allow you to fill it with either water to create steam, or they also have special Macadamia Hair Conditioning Treatment that you can add to the straightener so you can condition your hair while you straighten your hair!

If your looking for a quick way to braid your hair, or are just not braiding inclined, then the Infiniti Pro by Conair Quick Twist (coming soon to London Drugs) is going to be your new best friend. I've never been able to accomplish a waterfall braid, and as the Conair girls demonstrated, it's pretty darn easy to do with the Quick Twist!

AND we can't forget the brand new Infiniti Pro by Conair Ultimate Brush. I've had a chance to see this brush in action here, and let me tell you, for anyone who has ever has issues with static or frizz, this is a life saver! Plus, it's wireless, so it's perfect for taking with you on the go, from the gym, to camping, or travelling.

New in Gadgets:

These two products were just so cool they needed their own category. On the left below, is Prestige's yet-to-be-released and patent-pending Brow Perfection Tool. Have you ever seen anything like it?? I can't wait to try this when it's available at London Drugs!

Tweezerman also showcased a handy little tool at the event that will be coming your way at London Drugs soon. The Tweezerman Smooth Finish Facial Hair Remover is a super easy and painless (believe me, we tested it on my arm hair) way to remove unwanted hair.
