Preppy Equestrian Style for the FEI Nations Cup

You know me, I will never turn down an opportunity to don my preppy attire, and a day at the FEI Nations Cup Jumping, sure is good enough for me! It was a beautiful sunny afternoon (lucky us!), and I spent the day watching Canada, the US, Ireland and Mexico compete for the ultimate $100,000 prize. Swiss watchmaker Longines is the official timekeeper and sponsor of the event which is held at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley BC. The classic, elegant, luxury watch brand certainly fits the aesthetic of the event (and I think one of their watches would have paired quite well with my preppy outfit, if I do say so myself...).

Now, this is a fashion blog here, so of course we're going to discuss what to wear if you're ever invited to such an event. A horse jumping event like this is definitely a different vibe than a Kentucky Derby or Deighton Cup type of event: it's far more laidback, style-wise. So rather than donning a huge hat, fancy dress and heels, I instead opted for (somewhat) more casual attire. When I started to brainstorm outfits though, I'll admit I came to a roadblock. When I usually think of equestrian style, I think of fall equestrian outfits like this one. Summer is definitely a bit more difficult. So I decided to go with a more preppy look instead!

For starters, I recommend choosing low wedges if you're going to wear heels, in case you end up walking the course. Longines invited us to see the jumps up close before the event began, and it was helpful to not be teetering around in high heels on grass. With the sun out in full blast, a good hat was a must-have - nothing too huge, and definitely not a fascinator, but something with a bit of a brim. As for the rest of the outfit, I've been waiting for the perfect time to rock this striped Tristan blazer that I thrifted from Salvation Army ages ago. Serious preppy vibes, right? Pair that with a pair of classy wide leg pants and a flowy summer blouse, and you're all set to go!

Thanks Longines for hosting us, and congrats to team USA for their FEI Nations Cup win!

Last Days of Summer

It started to rain during the last half hour of my time at Thunderbird Park last week...fall must be almost here! I have a feeling this may be my last summery outfit of the season. I love this striped skirt so much, I'm glad I got one more wear out of it before being packed away for the winter.

I had great time checking out a horse jumping competition at Thunderbird Park with Swiss luxury watch brand Longines. Fashion blogger and buddy Samantha of OTISamantha invited me along for the lovely afternoon - I've never been much a horse person, but it as really neat to see just how insanely high the jumps are, and the skill it takes to make the jumps. It was hard not to get into it: every time a horse inadvertently knocked over one of the poles on a jump, you could hear the entire audience let out a sigh of dismay. When they completed the course perfectly, the crowd was full of excited cheers! It was pretty exciting to watch and listen.

People watching at the event actually got me quite excited about fall fashion - there was so much equestrian style on display, and I've always loved infusing the equestrian style of brands like Ralph Lauren into my fall wardrobe. I can't wait to unbox all my fall clothes and get to work creating some equestrian-inspired outfits now!

What clothing item or style are you most excited to rock this fall?
