UFV Absolute Style Grad Fashion Show 2012

I headed out to Abbotsford on Wednesday to attend the University of the Fraser Valley's Absolute Style 2012 grad fashion show. My photographer's sister is in the first year of their Fashion Design program and was helping behind the scenes. They seriously put on a fantastic show! It's amazing what these students have created after 2 years of schooling! Even the venue itself was very well put together, very professional. The show featured several different aspects of fashion design such as machine weaving, surface design, etc, as well as the collections for each individual graduate student.

My favourites from the design techniques were in the Surface Designs sections. I can honestly say that there were a few pieces that I would have purchased in an instant. Two of the designs in particular were beautiful bright and flowing chiffon-type pieces that were incredibly stunning. I especially loved the dark contrasting cinched waists on both dresses. They had a very exotic feel to them.

Of the collections featured, my favourites were by Honey Han, Be Admired Clothing, Saut de l'ange designs, and AB Clothing. Honey Han's collection was very classy and proper- and in lovely fresh pastels! The skirt suit outfits were Chanel-esque with their tweed fabric and feminine details. The crystal headbands were a perfect touch. Be Admired Clothing had my heart with the cropped bustier/bralette. So adorably retro! The patterns were bold and bright (perfect for summer) and this top would be so refreshing on a hot day. I may be making one myself as a DIY project if I can! Saut de l'ange's collection was ballerina inspired to say the least. Models in beautiful tutus of tulle bounced down the runway in pointe shoes gracefully. One key thing to note: the bun. If you haven't already, it's time to find a DIY video and do your own sock bun. They are definitely a popular polished look this season. AB Clothing brought some more retro feel to the runway with some 40's inspired pieces. My favourite was definitely the sparkling flapper dress! I have a flapper dress from H&M, but I love the glitzy feel of this one. The rest of the collection was just as glam, with lace and long dramatic gowns.

Overall, UFV put on a very fashionable show! Their grads showcased some serious talent. Let's hope we can get our hands on some of these designs in the near future! Keep your eyes peeled for their brands.

Happy Styling! xo
