Look of the Week: Polka Dots and Yellow Heels

Last week I was given the opportunity to attend a meet & greet  with local beauty Jessica Kruger at London Drugs Coquitlam, who for the last year has been the brand ambassador for Lise Watier's fragrance Something Sweet.

A Burnaby native and all-around fantastic woman, Jessica is not only raising awareness about the capabilities of quadriplegics, but is inspiring others that beauty is something everyone has. "Beauty isn't something people can tell you you have; it comes from within. No one but you tells you if you're beautiful or not." Jessica explained during her Q&A. We've heard people say many times that beauty comes from within, but I am particularly fond of the way Jessica sees it. She truly is a beautiful woman who is wise beyond her years.

The fragrance itself is just as sweet as Jessica. She listed off the combined scents: champagne, chocolate mousse. rainbow sorbet, raspberry, and accents of melon. She had me at 'champagne'! It is delectably sweet, indeed.

And to end of the event, the make-up artists of Lise Watier tried out their brand new eye shadow palette and fabulous matte lipstick out on me...and I must say the pops of colour were extremely welcome on the rainy day that it was! The eye shadow palette has a nice mix of bright colours and more subtle tones, which work well for toning down or amping up a look for day/night. The final look is at the very end of the post. To try out the look yourself, find Lise Watier products at your local London Drugs beauty counter!

Breakfast at Tiffany's: The Bestie's Bridal Shower

Last weekend I got to help celebrate one of my best friend's soon-to-be marriage with a super sweet Breakfast at Tiffany's bridal shower! Myself and another bestie/bridesmaid planned the whole thing, and had a total blast putting it all together, from the cutesy bow cupcakes to the teeny tiny Tiffany's boxes. Even more fun than the treats, though, was the photobooth! We strung up a damask backdrop, whipped out our fascinators, pearls, and paper props, and posed doing our best Holly Golightly.

We spent the afternoon sipping champagne, playing games (think musical chairs with Tiffany's boxes), and opening gifts: an excellent girly afternoon. Our bride-to-be even wore a Tiffany-coloured dress with the quintessential boat neck design: perfection! It's not often we really get excuses to dress up anymore (maybe that's just a Vancouver thing?), so occasions like this are the perfect reason to dawn your fancy hat, throw on some pearls, and slip on your 'tea time' dress!

Vancouver Fashion Week FW2014: Day 2

Day 2, and my final recap of Vancouver Fashion Week this season, brought an amazing array of talented designs from the likes of LaSalle College, Na Hyun Lee, Connally McDougall, Maella Fashion Boutique, Grandi's Atelier, and Evan Clayton. To start, Na Hyun Lee's bright neon pieces with flouncy hemlines had me wanting a whole new wardrobe; the bright blue box-pleat skirt is the perfect addition to a bold, flirty look. I also loved the sassy yet classic taste of Connally McDougall's collection, right down to the cute complementing glasses! And on the complete opposite side of the spectrum, Evan Clayton's collection Jenova was feminine, but had a dark seductiveness to it. Congrats to Evan on not only being featured in Vogue UK, but also winning the opportunity to show at Vienna Fashion Week in September!

I stepped backstage with London Drugs to check out the trendy super-high hair do's being prepared for the Grandi's Atelier show. Vancouver Fashion Week Beauty Director Chris Funk walked us through how to create a voluminous french twist with Pantene products, so you can try it at home too!
