Business in the Front, Party in the Back: The Open Back Shirt

The age-old fashion rule (not that I'm really all about rules in fashion - but bear with me), is if you're showing skin in one area of your outfit, to balance it out by covering up another area. Short skirt? Skip the deep-v neck top and stick to something a bit more demure.

Open back tops like the one I'm wearing here started popping up everywhere over the last year, and they're a great piece to have in your wardrobe. From the front, it's a just a sweet little top, with puffed sleeves and a high collar. But in the back.....a nice crossed open back showing off some skin! You could always wear a top like this with a bandeau underneath to have it peek out the back. Or if you're heading to the beach, a strappy bikini would be perfect underneath too.

If we have a summer anything like last summer (I was sweltering hot the entire time), then shirts like this are going to be your best friend. Just imagine how it'll keep you cool when a breeze comes by!

Summer Nautical Style

Ah, summer looks like it's here in Vancouver already, and I can't get enough of wearing summer clothes again! Our annual boat trip in May always kicks off my nautical style obsession for the summer: anchors, linen, navy and white stripes...the more the better!

Linen pants are one of my favourite laid back styles for warmer weather. I have another pair that I picked up a long time ago at Ross Dress for Less (seen here), but I like that these one from Old Navy are slightly cropped and tapered: gotta show off those cute boat shoes, after all.

If you want to see what beauty items I took on the go with me on the boat trip, check out my Nautical Inspiration post!

Nautical Style: Part 1

I couldn't have been more excited for our May Long Weekend boat trip! I have been obsessing over nautical style for weeks now, leading up to the trip, and was glad to finally have a chance to put all the outfits in action! The key colour combo for the weekend was obviously white, red, and navy, which made it easy to mix and match. Layering was also a necessity because of the 'iffy' weather; tanks and light button ups are great for that. Plus, cable knit sweaters make a great add-on if it gets colder. And don't forget the boat shoes! An absolute must for any nautical outfit.

Summer Inspiration: Nautical Fashion

I have been obsessing lately over absolutely anything nautical...it's probably because next weekend I'll be on a boat trip! I couldn't be more excited! Nautical style doesn't have to stay on the boat though, I'm looking forward to wearing it all summer long! How would I sum up my take on the style? Comfy boyfriend jeans, boat shoes, retro bikinis, striped sweaters, and breezy chambray shirts: all in navy and white with a hot pop of colour (oh and don't forget the gold accessories). If you're on the hunt, check out Old Navy; they have a TON of cute nautical stuff in stores right now. I definitely went a little crazy there the other day...

Keep an eye out, I'll have posts after the trip featuring the outfits I've drawn from this inspiration!
