Casual Summer Style: Converse Sneakers & Dresses

My Converse sneakers have become a staple in my spring & summer wardrobe - and not just with jeans and a tee! While I love wearing cute heels with my dresses, the reality is that most of the time I need a more comfortable option. And it just so happens that my Converse sneakers look super cute with dresses too.

I'm actually working on procuring a pair of Stan Smith's right now, because I think they'd be equally cute with jeans or dresses, but in the meantime I'm happy with pairing everything from shirt-dresses to flirty, frilly dresses with my Converse. Most people have the regular Chuck Taylor All Star Classic, but I find them just a tad too chunky on me when wearing them with dresses, so I prefer the slightly slimmer Chuck Taylor All Star Dainty.

The best part? They transition well from one season to the next, so you'll be able to wear them all summer long, and straight into fall!

What to Wear in a Heat Wave

We've been experiencing one heat wave after another this summer, and unlike the babes from the beaches of California, I don't handle the sun and heat all that well, so I've had to make some adjustments to my summer apparel to keep cool.

I hate wearing shorts in a heat wave - dresses are more my thing - but my even my cute summer dresses weren't making the cut in this heat. Anything remotely tight wasn't comfortable and made sweating even worse, so I went on the hunt for dresses that were super breathable and free-flowing.

I came across these 3 backless dresses from Tobi, and ordered them all right away!  The left one is for lounging at home, the middle I chose for casual gatherings, and the far right is for a night out. They all fit perfectly and are keeping me calm and cool in this crazy heat!

Not sure what to wear underneath all these backless dresses? I cannot say enough good things about the strapless/backless Nudi Bra I bought from Ever New at Pacific Centre in Vancouver. The stickiness inside the cups even regenerates once you wash them, so you can re-use it over and over again without the adhesive breaking down! This is seriously the best strapless bra I've ever owned.

How are you handling the heat wave?

Summer Nautical Style

Ah, summer looks like it's here in Vancouver already, and I can't get enough of wearing summer clothes again! Our annual boat trip in May always kicks off my nautical style obsession for the summer: anchors, linen, navy and white stripes...the more the better!

Linen pants are one of my favourite laid back styles for warmer weather. I have another pair that I picked up a long time ago at Ross Dress for Less (seen here), but I like that these one from Old Navy are slightly cropped and tapered: gotta show off those cute boat shoes, after all.

If you want to see what beauty items I took on the go with me on the boat trip, check out my Nautical Inspiration post!

Fashion Inspiration: Nautical Style

Every year for the May long weekend, we go boating with friends of ours up the BC coast. It's always one of the most highly anticipated trips of the year for me: a chance to fully unplug from daily life, relax, spend time with friends and the bf...and in nautical style, of course!

Below you'll find my must-haves for a nautical summer look, many items of which I've already picked up for my upcoming trip! Stripes, linen, coral and gold will all play a big part of my boating outfits- of course, with the weather here always uncertain, it's important to have a good variety of tanks, sweaters and jackets, so you're prepared no matter what.

For beauty, I want to keep my warm-weather routine simplified, so I found a BB cream, blush and lipstick that would keep my face looking refreshed without over-doing it. I searched high and low for the perfect BB cream for my insanely pale complexion; as we get closer to summer, a lightweight tinted moisturizer with SPF is a must. A dusting of coral blush and a swipe of vivid lipstick from London Drugs will keep the look flush! Oh, and I can't forget that John Frieda Beach Blonde Salt Spray...smells like summer in a bottle, and gives the perfect beachy waves.

I'll definitely be posting my outfits once I'm back, so stay tuned for more summer style inspiration!
