The $30 Jumpsuit that will Turn Heads This Holiday Party Season

The holidays are my favourite time of year for lots of reasons - from Christmas Markets to cozy cocktails and sparkly holiday outfits. As someone who is wholeheartedly obsessed with sequins and general fancy attire, this time of year is definitely the best. I did end up purchasing a couple new sequinned pieces this year for the holidays, but it's a certain satin jumpsuit that ended up really catching my eye when online shopping.

I picked up this satin green jumpsuit from SheIn for an incredible $32 if you can believe that. The jewel-tone green was why I first was drawn to it, but as someone who also has a deep obsession with fashionable capes, I also was very curious about the one-armed cape it has. As you'll see in the photos, capes are always a good idea (at least when it comes to fashion...I recall Edna from The Incredibles saying otherwise for superheroes...).

I ended up wearing this jumpsuit for the first time to Omega's annual holiday party at their boutique in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and it was a total hit. I went into the washrooms for a last-minute hair and makeup check before the event, and already had received half a dozen compliments on the jumpsuit by the time I left! For 30 bucks, it certainly left an impression!

Unfortunately, the jumpsuit does crease quite easily...but it also has pockets. You win some you lose some. SheIn ships super quick to Canada, so if you're wondering if you can ship it in time for your Christmas parties, the answer is probably yes. I'm wearing a size Medium here, for reference (it just needs a small belt to cinch the waist).

The Omega party was quite the affair - sparkling wine, gleaming watches, tasty treats, and good company. They also hosted photographer Dennis Gocer of The Collective You (you might know him as the photographer who snapped Justin Bieber's wedding pics), who took beautiful portraits of the guests. This was the third year having my photo taken by Dennis, and I love the shot even more than the previous ones! He really has an incredible knack for capturing the most stunning portraits.

I can say for sure, I'm going to be wearing this jumpsuit all holiday party season long! Keep scrolling to the bottom of this post for all of my outfit details.

Holiday Outfit Inspiration: Glittering Accessories

Happy holidays, folks! Christmas is officially almost here, and I couldn't be more excited...to have multiple excuses to get all dressed up in one week! Christmas might just be my favourite time of year, because I love pulling out the glitter for all of my holiday outfits. It's an excuse to go way more glam!

I absolutely fell in love with this red dress at Value Village back in August, and I knew right away that I'd want to use it during the holidays. A solid coloured dress makes it so easy to style with your favourite glittery accessories. Plus, can't hurt when you find the perfect dress for $13.49. Gotta love Value Village. But don't worry, I've linked up a few other affordable options below too.

I thought I'd break down the elements of this holiday look for you, in case it'll help you plan out your own last minute holiday outfits (and don't forget - I also have a video here with some more holiday outfit inspiration, from Queensborough Landing Shopping Centre!)

Anatomy of a sparkly holiday outfit:
  1. A solid coloured dress: Red or green are the obvious choices here, but really, any colour will do. By working with a solid colour, you'll have a good canvas to add all of your other fun and sparkly accessories. If you go with a dress that has bold prints/patterns, you may not be able to go with as many accessories, as it'll make things a bit too 'busy'.
  2. A sparkly necklace: No, not all necklaces are created equal. The one necklace that I always reach for, that is super glittery, yet surprisingly affordable, is this Lucy Crystal Collar Necklace from Olive + Piper. I seriously don't know what it is about this necklace, but it sparkles like diamonds!
  3. Glittery earrings: Ear jackets are my favourite earring option, when pairing earrings and a necklace. I hate wearing large earrings when I'm already wearing a necklace. And studs feel a little too boring for a fancier outfit. So I find that ear jackets are a good happy-medium, between studs and statement earrings. These little crystal and silver ones from Nobis & Grey have been an absolute go-to for years!
  4. A glittery purse: You can't go wrong with a purse covered in glitter this time of year. And you can use it for Christmas and your New Years parties! I found this gorgeous little Kate Spade purse at an outlet last year, and haven't regretted it one bit. So cute! It also has a crossbody strap which for me is a must. Mine is out of stock, but this one is a super affordable alternative.
  5. Glittery shoes: And the glittery pièce de résistance? These adorable glittery shoes from Old Navy! I bought these right away because they not only sparkle like nobody's business, but they also have a nice chunky low heel, making them ideal for standing around or dancing at holiday parties. I've gotten so many compliments on these heels already this December...if you happen to spot a pair in-store, snag them asap because they're going fast!!

Oh and I did want to also throw out a shout-out to the amazing stick-on nails I'm wearing here. I honestly can't say enough amazing things about them!! They're imPRESS nails, from London Drugs, and I've worn them for an entire week, and they still look great! I've replaced three over the last couple days, but hey - I think $10 for a weeklong manicure is actually a great deal. I feel like in the long term that would work out cheaper than a good pro manicure, and they stay looking 100% perfect the whole time, as opposed to when I go to the salon, I find they're still getting dented and chipping within that time. In fact, I love these so much, I just went out and bought another pair from London Drugs in a pretty matte burgundy and gold, to wear for Christmas Eve!

What to Wear to Your Office Holiday Party

Holiday office party outfits can be tough to style. You want to stand out, you want to look festive...but you also don't want to look like a Christmas tree. Or like you're headed to a club. Fine lines.

When I spotted this velvet 2-piece Calvin Klein outfit at Saks Off Fifth while in Phoenix, AZ, I totally fell in love. It took me all of 5 minutes to snatch it off the rack, scurry off to the change room, confirm its amazingness, and rush to the cash. I had been looking for something velvet to wear for the holidays (it's pretty much the #1 trending style this season), and I knew this would fit the bill. Even better? It wasn't the usual party dress. The matching pants to the velvet blazer have a stripe of velvet down the side, which I think make them look like fashionable tuxedo pants. How cool! Of course, it is the holidays, so I added some sparkly details in the form of these adorable gold Betsey Johnson heels and Kate Spade glitter purse.

If you're not in the mood for a party dress, or want to tame things down just a bit for your holiday office party, then a velvet blazer and pants are a chic alternative. If you want to amp up the drama just a bit, go sans-shirt and add a long, hanging necklace to match the plunging neckline.

I decided to wear this ensemble to an event last week at OMEGA's boutique at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. In Vancouver, it's always hard to tell if people are going to really dress up, or go casual, so I figured this velvet blazer and pants would be a good middle ground. I also knew that the incredible photographer Dennis Gocer of The Collective You would be there snapping portraits of guests, so I wanted to wear something relatively simple and chic, to match his black and white photography style. See the photos yourself below! Big thanks go out to OMEGA for the fabulous event, from the lovely portraits, to the gourmet handmade popsicles (pure genius, Chef Will Lee of Notch 8!), sparkling wine, and lots of sparkly accessories to try on!

Look of the Week: Retro Chic in the Trendy Midi Skirt

We were blessed with a beautiful winter wonderland in Vancouver this past week! Not quite for Christmas, but hey, I'll take it. It made for a great backdrop, although not exactly ideal for 5 inch heels...

There are lots of holiday parties coming up, so you want to be well prepared for all the types of get-togethers. The midi skirt, which is blowing up this season, is a great choice for parties where a more subdued and classic outfit is required. It's such a flattering length, and it's fullness gives such a girly touch. I think it looks best with heels, but a pair of cute ballet flats would make for a great weekend look. If you're going to go all black and grey, don't forget to toss a little sparkle and colour in there to keep things festive: a gold clutch and a nice bold lip colour will go a long way!
