Look of the Week: 20's Flair

Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day!

I have been very preoccupied the last week with all the shopping, baking, and family entertaining that comes along with Christmas holidays. And then there was Boxing Day...a day of pure insanity in the malls. I can't decide if I regret going this year or not. I got a great deal on rain boots, but other than that, the other things I bought were regular price! Next year I think I may take a stab at online shopping on Boxing Day instead, just to avoid the traffic. A word of advice to myself for next year: don't park in an underground mall parkade and expect to get out in less than half an hour. I was more impressed this year, though, that stores actually seemed to be sporting 50% off sales! In previous years, it seemed the best deal was a pitiful 'buy one, get the second 40% off', so it was a big step up this year! Anyway, I'm sure you see my Boxing Day finds over the next few shoots.

This post was done just before Christmas at Burnaby Village Museum, on a rather rainy day. In honour of the museum's 40th birthday, entrance is free! And so I thought it would be fitting to dress the part and take a tour. I styled the outfit around the Cloche hat my best friend/photographer got me for Christmas a couple years ago. Cloche hats are everywhere this winter season, and if you're looking for one, there are some fabulously gorgeous ones at Winners that I've had my eye on too. As for the dress, a lower hemline was in order, followed by low pumps. To give my hair just a little essence of the 20's, I used a hair straightener to give it simulated finger waves. As for my makeup, I stuck to my usual routine, but substituted in a darker red lipstick, which is more indicative of the time. Add a little faux fur for 20's glamour and...voila!

Happy Holidays to all of you around the fashion world!
