Halloween Makeup Tutorial: Harley Quinn Suicide Squad

This is a Halloween costume that's particularly great if you're a beauty lover: Harley Quinn from the Suicide Squad! I teamed up with London Drugs to re-create this super fun beauty look using all drugstore makeup and hair products. It was so much fun to turn into Harley for a day (mind you, there were definitely some stares on the way home). Sometimes I definitely wish I could do more with my makeup, but feel a bit shy to go all out on any given day. Halloween is a perfect opportunity to go nuts and really play with your makeup!

When it comes to Harley Quinn, there are some key things to highlight for your beauty look:
  • The pale white complexion
  • The "ruined" pink and blue eye makeup
  • The perfect red lips
  • The signature heart and 'Rotten' facial tattoos
  • The pink and blue pigtails
You can watch the London Drugs Beauty video below to see our step-by-step tutorial. I'll even show you how to get Harley's signature pink and blue hair using Garnier's Colour Stylers (don't worry it's very temporary)!

Thrifted Halloween Costume: Psycho

Halloween may actually be one of my favourite holidays. Oddly enough, it's not even really about going out on Halloween itself, it's more the excitement and fun of putting together my costume. Last year, I was feeling so inspired, I actually ended up creating 3 different Halloween costumes: Liv Moore from iZombieThe Countess from American Horror Story, and Cruella de Vil. I usually like to derive my inspiration from TV shows or movies. This year, I decided to do 2 different costumes! This is the first I'll share with you - stay tuned for the second on Friday.

Bates Motel is a TV show that's gained a lot more attention this year - especially with Rihanna set to star in it, filming right here in my hometown! If you haven't see the show, Bates Motel is a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 slasher film Psycho. So for Halloween this year, I thought it would be fun to re-create the scene everyone knows from Psycho: the shower scene, where Marion Crane is murdered by Norman Bates.

I partnered with Value Village to create the entire costume from thrifted items, and after some searching found the perfect shower curtain and shoes for the look. I did some DIY-ing with some fake black blood and a plastic knife (using only the knife handle and a glue gun), and completed the look with some black and white makeup. Since the movie Psycho is in black and white, I wanted to make the whole costume black and white - hence the black blood and the black and white makeup! It was so easy to pick everything up in one spot, the costume, props and makeup. Plus, it was the perfect place to find a cheap costume: you don't want to spend a ton on a brand new shower curtain for this! I even ended up really liking the white heels I found, so I'll likely get more wear out of those next summer. Now that's a thrifty Halloween costume!
