Fall Fashion Trend: The Statement Sleeve

I'm sure you've heard of statement earrings, statement necklaces and even statement bags, but how about statement sleeves? This spring, we started to see an influx of styles that centered around shirt sleeves: bell sleeves, ruffled sleeves, tied sleeves...the list goes on. It was hard to go a block on the street this summer without seeing them. And now it looks like this statement sleeve trend is going full steam ahead into Fall!

This SheIn Lantern Sleeve Belted Back Crop Top is definitely a statement piece. The billowy sleeves are eye-catching, meanwhile two straps wind around the waist, tying in a bow around the back. The shirt is a crop top, but I like how you can adjust the straps to cover more or less of your waist. At $24 US, this shirt doesn't break the bank, either. I was a little concerned about the sizing, but Medium ended up being a perfect fit.

The way the billowy sleeves end just above the wrist, they also nicely showcase any jewelry you're wearing. These gold accessories from Nobis & Grey were on heavy rotation in my wardrobe during summer, but will also look great with my camel-coloured outfits this Fall. I find gold to be a very "rich" colour, and I prefer wearing it with greens, browns and deep blues especially.

Of course, if these sleeves seem a bit too ambitious for you at first, there are plenty other styles you can try that are a little bit more subdued. I've linked up a few below for you to check out!

My Fall Uniform: Ripped Jeans & Ankle Boots

Let me just warn you right now: you're going to see a lot of white, grey and black on Vancouver Vogue this fall. I've been very inspired by more minimalist fashions lately, and as always, I love the quintessential style of Parisians, which often centres around white and black. It looks so crisp, clean and classic!

Now that that's been established, I love black jeans. They're just that little bit more versatile than blue jeans, in my mind. Add some rips at the knees (or buy them that way), and they'll add the perfect amount of edginess to all your fall outfits. My go-to shoes for a soggy, wet day are my Zara ankle boots - just a little bit of height, but easy enough to walk in around town. Plus they keep your feel out of small puddles. Ankle boots are such a great piece of transitional footwear for fall! I recommend choosing a pair with a chunky heels so you have better control when walking on slick sidewalks.

Stay tuned for more fall outfit inspiration! What style are you most excited to wear right now?

Look of the Week: Tan Waterfall Coat

I haven't been feeling much like dressing up lately, with this cold refusing to subside, so I've been resorting to super cozy jackets and low-heeled ankle boots when I feel the need to look presentable! Doesn't sound so bad, does it? This faux-suede waterfall jacket from Winners is insanely soft inside (seriously, my whole family was petting it yesterday), so it's an obvious choice if I have to actually get out of my pjs.

And these ankle boots? Just enough height to make them more exciting than flats, but still super easy to walk in. If you're going to invest in one pair of fashionable boots for next season, these mushroom/olive suede ankle boots from The Bay are a great choice. They're sold out now, but I've linked to similar ones below. Just don't wear them when you're driving a standard car, it will wear out the back of the heels. Such a sad moment when I realized what had happened...learn from my mistakes, folks!

Channeling Tommy Hilfiger: Preppy Style

I realized the other day that my uniform for this fall/winter had somehow never actually made it onto the blog yet! Whenever I'm in a rush to get dressed, and want to look put together but comfortable and warm (well, warm for Vancouver's weather), this is what I end up wearing. Oddly enough, I ended up taking these on the one day it snowed a tiny bit in Vancouver this winter.

This blazer is definitely one of my favourite thrifted finds of all time. The gold buttons are so striking, and I love the elbow patches, too. The blazer is a soft, stretchy and thick fabric, which means I often end up wearing it as a jacket. Add a good blanket scarf, and I'm nice and cozy in our mild weather. I also thrifted these riding boots (which are originally from Aldo); I find they complete the whole "Tommy Hilfiger" preppy look quite nicely. Well, that plus a dash of plaid, of course.

Adventures in Fort Langley

This past weekend, we headed out to Fort Langley for the Little White House's Noel Vintage Market- what better way to spend the day with the girls! It was an absolute downpour out, but that didn't stop hundreds of people from stopping by for the Christmas market. It was so great to see so many new people discovering my favourite little gem of Fort Langley! There was a great selection of handmade and vintage DIY goods- it was like peeking into the wonderful world of Pinterest wins. It definitely got the ideas flowing for Christmas. And there are like 4 scarves that I may or may not go back for at Little White House. Because my obsession for blanket scarves is insatiable.

Once we'd taken a full tour of all the vendors, and snacked on holiday punch and gold-dusted macarons (yes, please!), we headed over to Krause Berry Farms for lunch. Best decision ever. We tried their roasted corn chowder (made on-site) with asparagus bread...and a giant apple waffle. Oh man. Unreal. With the rain beating on the roof, a cozy fire place by the table, rustic-inspired decor...it was such a great spot to spend the afternoon! And it couldn't hurt that wine tasting was 5 steps away in the same room. Shopping, food and wine: that's my idea of a perfect day.
