Look of the Week: Tan Waterfall Coat

I haven't been feeling much like dressing up lately, with this cold refusing to subside, so I've been resorting to super cozy jackets and low-heeled ankle boots when I feel the need to look presentable! Doesn't sound so bad, does it? This faux-suede waterfall jacket from Winners is insanely soft inside (seriously, my whole family was petting it yesterday), so it's an obvious choice if I have to actually get out of my pjs.

And these ankle boots? Just enough height to make them more exciting than flats, but still super easy to walk in. If you're going to invest in one pair of fashionable boots for next season, these mushroom/olive suede ankle boots from The Bay are a great choice. They're sold out now, but I've linked to similar ones below. Just don't wear them when you're driving a standard car, it will wear out the back of the heels. Such a sad moment when I realized what had happened...learn from my mistakes, folks!

Winter Outfit Inspiration: Cozy Poncho

I almost made it through Black Friday and Cyber Monday without buying anything...until I somehow stumbled upon a coat and this poncho on Modcloth...and well, I lost my will power. But I'm so happy I did, because I absolutely love this Cabin Fervor Poncho! And it's gotten quite a few compliments too. It's like wearing a nice, cozy blanket everywhere you go. Especially with a nice cozy cable knit sweater underneath, it was perfect for a chilly afternoon.

Blanket scarves, capes, and ponchos are definitely the name of my style game this season! Have you tried any of these styles yet? They're part of my super easy winter uniform: cape/poncho/blanket, plus sweater, jeans and ankle boots.

Simple and Cozy

Sweaters have to be my absolute favourite fall fashion. When I head out to the thrift store this time of year, I always head straight for the sweater aisle first! I've had some great luck over the last few years there: Neiman Marcus cashmere, sequin-covered statement pieces, the perfect cable knit...the list goes on.

When I saw this Topshop sweater amongst the others at Value Village, I thought to myself "Do I really need another cream sweater? No, but...." Since my rule is always to try on and then decide, I gave it a try, to see if it was really worth it. Gleefully, I discovered that it was the perfect loose-comfy ratio: not to big that it looks like the wrong size, but roomy enough to look effortlessly cozy. Oh and did I mention the embellishment on the shoulders? Yep, definitely need another cream sweater after all.

Look of the Week: Faux Fur Cape

If you're looking for statement pieces (and I'm not just referring to jewelry here), the thrift store is your new best friend. I love finding items like this faux fur cape; you can take them and build a whole outfit around them.

I find that if you have something very voluminous on top, like this cape, it's best to counter that with something formfitting on the bottom, that accentuates your waist/hips. It's great to look cozy, but without some strategy, that can quickly turn into frumpy, so make sure you balance out your outfit! It's also why I've started tucking my sweater in what might seem like a weird way. I think it looks a bit more interesting than having the sweater cut straight across your hips.

To finish off the look, I'm wearing what I consider to be my favourite statement necklace of all time, the Stellar Necklace from Nobis & Grey. I seriously can't find anything it doesn't go with!
