Thrifty Thursday

Time to hop on the sweater train this week! I love looking through the racks of sweaters at Value Village: you could almost spend an entire trip just there. On this trip, I found sweaters with all kinds of cool embellishments, from elblow pads to spikes to metallic threads.

There won't be any cuddling happening with the sweetie in this sweater! Other than the fact that the metal spikes are a little cold on my shoulder through the knit, this sweater is awesome. Ones like this are easy to spot on the clothing racks without even moving the hangers around: you can spot those spikes from a ways away!

Store: Value Village

Thrifty Thursday

There have been some really cool finds in both Value Village and Salvation Army lately!

This is the perfect equestrian jacket. It's been beautifully designed, with gorgeous double breasted buttons, back detailing, and a beautiful colour of plaid. Can't wait to style this with some riding boots and beige pants.

Store: Value Village
Brand: Bianca Nygard
Store Section: Jackets
What I Paid: $19.99
What it Costs New: ~ 100

Ugly Christmas sweaters have become not-so-ugly in the last couple years! Check out this cute festive one from Old Navy..it even has sequins!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Old Navy
Store Section: Sweaters
What I Paid: $5.99
What it Costs New: ~ $30

You've already seen this faux fur cape here on my Look of the Week post! I wish it would snow here so I could wear it with a long maxi dress with white snowflakes all around!

Store: Value Village
Brand: Sears
Store Section: Leathers & Furs (this section apparently contains faux furs too!)
What I Paid: $39.99
What it Costs New: ?

Thrifty Thursday is Back!

I know it's been a long time since I've done a Thrifty Thursday post, but don't worry, I haven't stopped thrifting! I'm going to be bringing this back as a weekly post again, catching you up on what I've found recently, and showing you what I find in the coming months. Since I have recently moved, I'm looking forward to checking out some new thrift shops and finding some amazing new treasures!

How could I pass up on this cozy little jacket? Oddly enough, it's cut like a moto jacket, but has the warmth & thickness of a winter coat, although the suede and fur are both faux.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: United Colors of Benetton
Store Section: Front of the store (special item)
What I Paid: $29.99
What it Costs New: ?

In winter, it's all about the layers, and right now, oversized sweaters and coats are the the biggest trend for staying warm. I love that this one is in a classic camel colour, and has a waterfall hemline to it. Pretty and cozy!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Peter Nygard
Store Section: Sweaters (found it in the Medium section, but actually a Small)
What I Paid: $7.99
What it Costs New: ~ $90

I've never heard of this brand before, and I can't find it anywhere online, but this shirt is comfy as hell!! Not only that, but it fits perfectly. I really love the deep V neckline and the slightly ruched shoulders; for once, I don't hate a button-down type shirt!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: FOA
Store Section: Activewear Tops
What I Paid: $3.99
What it Costs New: ?

Thrifty Thursday

The summer clothes are out in the thrift stores in full force! All kinds of cute shorts and shirts to be had: you just have to search!

These shorts have a 'JCrew' sort of style to them; I love the bright damask print. They'll go great with an equally bright top.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Gap
Section: Shorts
What I Paid: $4.99
What They Cost In-Store: $60

It's rare to find the same thing twice in the thrift store, so when I passed on this skirt the first time and regretted it, I snatched it up as soon as I saw it again! Another bright colour to add to the wardrobe.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: H&M
Brand: Skirts
What I Paid: $3.99
What it Costs In-Store: ~ $30

Neutral heels are an absolute staple in any girl's wardrobe, and I already have a pair, but open toed heels are better for summer time than the usual close toed neutrals. These will go great with a crisp white tea length dress!

Store: Value Village
Brand: Aldo
Section: Shoes
What I Paid: $9.99* (Were originally $20, got 50% off !)
What it Costs In-Store: ~ $70

Thrifty Thursday

There is a theme here this week, and it's called cashmere! <3

It's always a victory when I find good quality 100% cashmere in the thrift store, partly just because it's often worth quite a bit, or because it's just so soft!

This will make a cute top for work. It's super soft (of course), and the bow sleeves are just adorable.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Jones New York Luxe
Section: Sweaters
What I Paid: $5.99
What it Costs In-store: ~ $200

I always look longingly in the window of the Mount Cashmere store in downtown Vancouver...so I couldn't have been more excited to finally have my hands on not one, but TWO of their cashmere sweaters!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Mount Cashmere
Section: Sweaters
What I Paid: $7.99 each
What it Costs In-store: $176 each

I would like to point out that this total haul is worth $552! I'd call that a successful thrifting trip, non?

Thrifty Thursday

As I look through what I have to show you this week, I realize I'm starting to run out of finds...time to head to the thrift store!

I'm kind of obsessed with sweaters still; usually by this time of year I would be thinking about my spring wardrobe, but I'm still picking out sweaters! I blame the recent snowfall...

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Alexandra Bartlett
Section: Sweaters
What I Paid: $7.99
What it's Worth: ?

I've actually been holding on to this dress for a long time now, but I figured it would be a bit better to share it with you now rather than in December. I feel like I'll be picnic ready in this little number! It'll look cute with some little white canvas sneakers.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: ?
Section: Dresses
What I Paid: $5.99
What it's Worth: ?

The mint trend may have been last year's thing, but I still can't get enough of it! I think it still remains relevant because it's a pastel colour, and spring is all about the pastels. This shirt is a perfect example of another sizing anomaly: it's a large, but it doesn't seem like it's sized too big, it's just casually loose. Perfect for a hot spring day!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Vero Moda
Section: Activewear (interesting to note, since I wouldn't really consider it activewear)
Size: Large (it fits loose, but a casual kind of loose; don't always go by what's on the tag! Try it on!)
What I Paid: $4.99
What it's Worth: ?

Thrifty Thursday

I've been having some serious thrifting withdrawal as of late. I really wish Salvation Army wasn't closed on Sundays, it seems to be the only day I have free to shop... So here's a few pieces I found in recent months that I haven't gotten around to sharing here yet:

This blouse isn't exactly winter wear, but I think spring is coming soon enough! I love that the deep V neck is on the front and the back. Very dramatic.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand:
Section: Short Sleeve Blouses
What I Paid: $6.99
What it's Worth: ?

Do remember seeing this already here? There is chain running up and down the front: a unique detailing that gives just a hint toughness.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand; Dex
Section: Sweaters
What I Paid: $5.99
What it's Worth: ~ $40

Can one ever truly have enough sweaters? Cable knits are great, but they're usually also very chunky. I really like how this one is nice and light, plus it's Guess, so the quality is there too.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Guess
Section: Sweaters (Note: I found it in the Large section, and it is labelled large, but it fits like a Medium)
What I Paid: $9.99
What it Costs In-Store: ~ $70

Thrifty Thursday

Faux fur and all-black ensembles won over my heart at the thrift store this week! Let the holiday parties begin!

This faux fur piece was likely part of a jacket originally, judging by the elastic loops, but I plan on cutting them off and adding this on to any of my winter jackets! The perfect accessory to take an outfit to the next level, especially for adding to a 1920's glam ensemble.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: ?
Section: Hats
What I Paid: $2.99
What it's Worth: ?

This dress has a vintage glam feel to it. I love the fact that it's off-the-shoulder, and yet it has enough structuring inside that it stays in place. The thin straps are meant to be tucked inside, I believe.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Kathryn Conover
Section: Dresses
What I Paid: $12.99
What it's Worth: ?

Real fur hats are very expensive...especially in vintage shops. And I don't need/want real fur anyway. So I was super excited to find this jewel by the cashier counter. It's exactly the colour I've been looking for, and it's not so insanely puffy that it looks ridiculous.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Hat Attack New York (via Winners originally, judging by the tags)
Section: Behind the cashier's counter
What I Paid: $6.99
What it's Worth: ?

Thrifty Thursday

It's funny that I used to worry about running out of things to show you here every Thursday. Judging by the amount of items I have waiting to be posted, I don't think that will ever be a problem now!

After my last beaded purse (seen here) was such a huge hit, when I saw this one I thought it would be another perfect addition to my closet. This one has even more of a '20s feel to it, which I love- perfect for all those Gatsby-inspired parties. The only thing I find to be a problem with these types of purses is that the twisted strap always comes apart at the base. When this happens, I just tuck the strap inside and use it as a clutch: still love it!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Ingledews
Section: Purses & Bags
What I Paid: $3.99
What it's Worth: ?

A super find! It's a little big, but since it's a cotton blazer, it works fine to just roll up the sleeves. A good casual jacket that's easy to layer. Plus, I love the pleats on the back: just the right amount of detail!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Armani Exchange
Section: Featured Items (front of store)
What I Paid: $9.99
What it's Worth in Store: $88

Olive green is a trending colour this season, so when I saw this tank I knew it would be perfect with all-black tights, blazer, and ankle boots. The metal studs give just the right amount of edginess.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Jacob
Section: Dresses (It's interesting to note it was under 'dresses' since it's more like a long tank once it's on)
What I Paid: $6.99
What it's Worth: ?

Thrifty Thursday

Bright hues are out this week: now it's all burnt oranges, faded browns, and classic black. I do love colour, but my favourite thrifted picks this week are toned down...yet still ever so fabulous. I love picking something up and immediately imagining what I can style it with.

My rule for sweaters: when in doubt, try it on! Well, that's really my rule for thrifting in general, but it especially holds true for sweaters. I thought I'd give this one the benefit of the doubt, and once I tried it on I had all kinds of ideas for how to wear it! My first styling will be with a pair of skinny dark wash jeans and brown leather heeled boots; an easy fall outfit.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: ?
Section: Sweaters
What I Paid: $7.99
What it's Worth: ?

There a few really great hats for fall, and this is one of them. The floppy felt hat has a bit of a boho feel to it, but to me it also seems to have the femme fatale vibe to it: I think it's how it shades your eyes. If you can find yourself a fedora, that would also be another good choice for fall, and there's always tons of them in the thrift store!

Store: Value Village
Brand: Express
Section: Hats & Scarves
What I Paid: $6.99
What it's Worth: ?

I call this the pretty Parisian dress. It has my favourite classic combo of beige and black, and the simple cotton design makes for an easy-to-throw-on piece. I can just picture it with a cozy knit thrown over top and a pair of black polka dot tights and ballet flats.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Enough About Me
Section: Dresses
What I Paid: $6.99
What it's Worth: ?

Thrifty Thursday

I talk a lot about finding pieces that are special: something with that little bit of embellishment or cut that makes it unique. Sometimes, though, it's great to come across some real classic pieces that will stand the test of time. This week, I found some great classic and basic items to add to my wardrobe.

The real wool blazer is a great transitional jacket to fall, since it's warmer than a thin blazer but not as thick as a pea coat. The colour is great too, as it's a nice pop of colour over darker fall tones.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Sabre Films
Section: Blazers
What I Paid: $9.99
What It's Worth: ?

Ankle booties are everywhere right now. They're great for adding some height, but are much easier to walk in than pumps. Plus, they'll keep my feet warm and dry! I love the hounds tooth print on the interior, too. I'm looking forward to styling these with a really classic Ralph Lauren-esque outfit.

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Tommy Hilfiger
Section: Boots
What I Paid: $9.99
What it's Worth: ~ $100

Baseball hats have become a fashion fixture this year, and I'm still planning on getting my hands on one, but I like this baseball inspired look!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Joe Fresh
Section: T-shirts
What I Paid: $1.99
What it's Worth: ~ $14

Thrifty Thursday

Hi I'm Britta (hi Britta), and it's been 1 week since I thrifted. And yes, I'm going through withdrawal. So let's look back at a few items I got awhile back...

Who loves this dress? Because if you're a size XS, it's yours! I fell in love with this dress, bought it, brought it home....and realized it's far too snug on top. So if you love it, it's yours for free!

Store: Salvation Army
Brands: Zara Basic
Section: Dresses
What I Paid: $14.99
What it's Worth: ?

As the career world of marketing fast approaches, it's time to start thinking about what I can wear to make my 'business casual' outfits pop. These tapered trousers are just the thing for fall!

Store: Salvation Army
Brand: Forever 21
Section: Pants
What I Paid: $5.99
What it's Worth: ?

Looks like the real deal. I just really liked the slogan; every girl who loves to dress up is a glitter girl!

Store:Value Village
Brand: Galliano
Section: Tanks &T-shirts
What I Paid: $2.99
What it's Worth: ~ $100
