Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2014: Day 1

I was more excited than ever for the shows this season after seeing the Vancouver Fashion Week Opening Gala's sneak peek, and Day 1 did not disappoint! The designs of Green Embassy, Nina Tan, Pitour, Shelley Klassen, and Gabriel Lage were highlights of the night, but all were incredibly diverse and and a feast for the eyes. Gabriel Lage's collection of awe-inspiring beaded gowns was a truly beautiful way to end the evening, leaving us all to dream of wearing something so breathtakingly elegant one day. I'd say Gatsby-esque beading is still all the rage for the coming season (yes!).

I also went backstage with London Drugs Cosmetics before the shows to get the scoop on the latest hair and beauty trends, straight from Beauty Director Yasmin Morshedian. Heads up, smokey eyes and red vampire lips are big trends to watch for, as well as graphic liner (which is my go-to on a daily basis). Check out our Day 1 of Vancouver Fashion Week which includes a backstage make-up how-to on the models of Nina Tan Design:

Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2014: Opening Gala

It's that time of year again! Vancouver Fashion Week is upon us! I'm excited to be working with London Drugs this year to cover the beauty trends which are hitting the runway this week. Tonight, we will be covering the runway shows, and doing backstage interviews with VFW Beauty Directors Chris Funk and Yasmin Morshedian to find out how to wear the hottest hairstyles and make-up trends of Fashion Week (all with products from Covergirl, Olay and Pantene!). Stay tuned, and make sure you follow me (Twitter and Instagram) & London Drugs (Twitter and Instagram) to keep up with our live posting from the shows.

Last night was the opening gala, which made for some stellar people-watching, a chance to catch some live entertainment, and of course the pièce de résistance....a sneak peek runway show of the designers' looks! I picked out a few of my favourites, just to give you a taste of what's in store this week. Lots of big hair (the bouffant is back!) and winged liner seem to be key trends, as were crystal-laden gowns (so in love!) and structural designs.

Look of the Week: Comfortably Chic Weekendwear

Let's be honest here: how many times have you gotten home, after being all dolled up, and pretty much rip off those clothes to gleefully jump into your go-to pj's. Yep. All the time. So I'm trying to switch out my rather ugly go-to's for something a little more fashionable...but still very comfy!

I have been searching high and low for an affordable alternative to this chic and understated Creme de la Creme sweater by Zoe Karssen for a very (very) long time now, so naturally I was jumping for joy when I found this version with pink typography from Tobi. This is my new favourite online shop by the way, and if you join, your first order is 50% off- that's a decent discount! Did I mention shipping is free? Yes, definitely my favourite shop right now, and no doubt yours now too.

I've seen a lot of people style their casual chic Creme de la Creme sweaters with boyfriend jeans, which I also love, but I wanted to try a different look that was equally as laid back. Basically, I just worked around the sweater, adding a statement necklace, drawstring loose trousers, and some geeky frames to tie it all together. If you find yourself gravitating to the same pair of sweatpants or leggings, try a pair of casual trousers like these instead; you'll be just as comfy but you'll look fabulous too!
