NFW: New York Fashion Week

While we are waiting patiently for Vancouver Fashion Week to come around, let's take a peek at what's walking down the runway in New York right now! I've given you a rundown of what trends we can expect to see people wearing next Spring and what my favourite collections of the week are.

It's very interesting to note how many trends are carrying over from this Summer and Fall. From summer 2012, peplum, sheer fabrics, and cropped bustiers are again prevalent in the SS 2013 collections, while metallics, leather, and wild prints will be added to the spring/summer trends.

BCBGMaxAzria's collection is the perfect combination of class and and tough-girl charm. We already know leather is a hot addition to any outfit, but here, its bustier-like design makes it even hotter!

Cropped tops and sheer blouses aren't going away anytime soon, as is evident in Charlotte Ronson's collection.

Czar by Cesar Galindo's collection is anything but shy; it's bold, showing metallics aren't just for the cooler months anymore. We're also seeing a lot of black and white prints this season, and not just one, but mixing and matching prints too!

Remember what I was just saying about metallics? DKNY seems to think they are spring-worthy as well! The collection featured classic cuts with a sporty flair: a look that I am generally not fond of. However, with that glammed-up silver fabric, I may be a fan yet.

I hope you're all excited about the return of peplum, because Kaelen's collection is one of many that proves this trend is here for the long term! Not only are we all sporting this look for fall, crisp whites will transition this style into next spring/summer. Sheer blouses are making another appearance in this designer's collection as well, so don't go giving yours away just yet.

The leather detailing here is very similar to what we saw in BCBGMaxAzria's Spring/Summer collection...oh wait, that's because it's Hervé Léger by Max Azria! Just like in BCBG's collection, the leather gives a tougher, sexier appeal to the pieces. I feel like this may warrant a DIY project...

On a much softer note, Lela Rose's collection has a much more romantic feel to it. The pieces are sheer, lacey, and in the most delicate of shades: very ladylike. My favourite is the lavender trousers with contrasting black embellishment.

Marissa Webb's collection featured a good variety of pieces, featuring some very hot items this season. The full leather skirt is a definite hit, and would be a perfect piece to take from winter to spring. Equally versatile, the highlighter blouse will brighten winter wardrobes while fitting perfectly in with the rest of spring's trendy sheer attire.

There's that trending black and white again! This time, we see what seems to be another trending colour too: turquoise. We're seeing more and more unique prints on the runway this season and Monique Lhuillier's designs definitely fit the bill.

The more collections you see, the more you begin to recognize the trends; here, Nicole Miller puts her spin on the leather and print craze (and is that a sheer skirt too?? three trends in one!)

I hope this colour really explodes next season. Pastel tangerine is such a unique colour and makes a great statement piece for any outfit. Noon by Noor also features spring metallics and sheer fabrics as part of the collection.

The Art Institute of New York City laid out a very sexy moto-inspired collection, which proved that leather isn't just for fall. Bright hues and super-short hemlines pump up the heat factor.

Wild prints make another appearance in the W118 by Walter Baker collection, as does that pastel tangerine hue. White lace and tangerine makes a beautiful combination; this is definitely something I will be trying come spring 2013.

The Carmen Marc Valvo collection was exceptionally stunning. Peplum was given a classic yet dramatically volumous spin, while a hot coral hue spiced up the otherwise black and white designs. Like the W118 collection, white lace added a touch of romanticism.

Norisel Ferrari's collection was arguably one of my favourites of NFW. Why? She designed the trendy peplum and cropped bustier in a retro-inspired fashion, sealing the deal with a dramatic hat and classic 40's makeup. This is essentially the culmination of my style.

What were your favourite designers of New York Fashion Week? Is it getting you excited for Fashion Week in your city?

Happy Styling! xo
