Top Fashion Trends: The Cabbie Hat, the Duster and the Gucci Mules

I don't tend to jump on fashion trends just because they're trends - but these are 3 fashion trends I was totally excited to jump on: the cabbie hat, the duster jacket, and the Gucci mules.

The Gucci Mules

Obviously, I didn't end up with the actual Gucci mules. Nobody got cash for that. Well, some people do, but not moi. I spotted these faux fur dupes at Winners from the brand XOXO and they're perfect! Sure, a few people have joked that they look like slippers, but I think they're pretty fun. They've been great for wearing around the apartment building (getting the mail, doing laundry) while looking a whole lot more put together than I normally would. They've also been great to wear on a casual Sunday out for coffee or brunch. A very casual chic vibe!

The Cabbie Hat

I wasn't actively searching for this hat, but for a few months, I was keeping an eye out for the right one while out shopping for other things. I knew I wanted a cabbie hat with some texture to it - in the form of a rope or chain across the front, and a combination of materials. Finally, I ended up stumbling upon this one, with rope and button detailing, and a contrasting faux leather. Just what I was hoping for!

It's funny how all trends come back around. I definitely had like 3 of these cabbie-style caps back in high school, when they were cool. I had one in navy corduroy, one in baby blue (don't know what I was thinking there...), and one in a neutral beige. Guess I should have held onto them!

The Duster Jacket

This is an awesome trend I hope sticks around til the spring. The duster jacket is such a great option when you want to add just a light layer to your outfit. For the fall/winter, this one in black is perfect. I've been wearing it with a cashmere sweater underneath on slightly colder days too. In the spring, I'd like to get one in a light beige colour too, like a trench coat.

Which of these fashion trends are you most likely to try?

The Versatile Exotic Print Dress

And the obsession with palm print continues! It started with my gold and palm print bathing suit, and then my all-time favourite palm leaf bomber jacket, and then there was my custom fit palm dress. When I was choosing a few new things from SheIn, I spotted this Tropical Print Double Cutout Choker Neck Dress and had to add it to the collection! While SheIn was kind enough to gift me the dress, it's available for a super affordable $18 if you're looking to snatch one for yourself too.

I've noticed over the past few weeks, since the dress arrived in the mail, that I've been wearing it non-stop! After-work patio drinks, birthday parties, or blogger events: it's been a go-to. Part of that is the awesome, but I also love that it's free flowing (good for hot summer days), and very comfortable with no bra strap issues, etc. It's great to have a couple easy dresses like this in your wardrobe for summer.

If you have a palm print outfit in your closet you're dying to wear (or are ordering the one I'm wearing!), here are a few styling ideas:
  • Gold accessories go really nicely with the green in the palm print. I think it makes it look more expensive! Here, I'm wearing my favourite roman numeral bracelets from Nobis & Grey. I've had them for a couple years, and they're a nice final touch especially to my green or blue outfits I find.
  • Bright white also goes really well with the palm print. I feel very 'resort-wear'-esque when matching the two together. It also helps to balance out the otherwise busy print. Here I chose a long sleeveless vest, since a blazer is probably a bit too warm for this time of year!
  • A sleek clutch polishes off the look. A palm print dress can easily go from day-to-night. Wear it to the beach, and then add a sleek clutch and you look evening-ready in a second. A pair of minimalist heels doesn't hurt either.

Summer Trends 2017: Embroidery

What's better than one summer trend? Two! This Rose Applique Off-the-Shoulder Dress from SheIn checks off two off the hottest summer trends (cold shoulder and embroidery) in one! Plus it's super affordable, at $17.99. Embroidery has been a break-out trend this summer, and while I appreciate it looks really cool, until I found this dress, I had a hard time finding a piece of clothing with embroidery that I felt fit my style. Most were jeans jackets and the like - just not a good fit. But this off-the-shoulder dress is so sweet!

I don't know about you, but I don't handle hot summers all that well; I always like to have a few dresses on-hand that are very loose and flowy - perfect to wear on a day when you don't want anything sticking to you. You can even wear this one without the belt and have it super loose, but I prefer a cinched waist, so I added this braided faux leather belt. I also like to match my accessories, my belt and my shoes, like I have here.

If you're trying to figure out "but what do I wear under it???", I wore a one-piece shapewear and tucked in the thin straps to make it strapless. Because the dress is white, it's a little less forgiving, so you'll want to make sure you're wearing something nude coloured underneath, and the shapewear helps just to make sure any lines are noticeable. Plus, the one thing I hate about strapless bras is that they're always riding down: the shapewear tends to eliminate that issue.

Have you tried the embroidery trend yet?

Affordable & Sweet Spring Style

Here on Vancouver Vogue, I love sharing affordable outfit inspiration with you. An outfit shouldn't have to break the bank to make you feel awesome. I feel absolutely giddy about this sweet bow-filled outfit, and guess what? No item here is over $20!

I am so over the moon with this top: I love black and white, and have a not-so-small obsession with bows, so when I spotted this SheIn checked bow split back peplum top online, I crossed all my fingers and toes that it would fit. It's got quite a boxy, looser shape in the front, but I think this is actually preferred for hot spring/summer days, and the openness of the back is not only super cute, but great for letting a much needed breeze through to keep me cool. The temperatures are on the rise here early this year (is it summer here already??), so I'm going to be choosing tops like this more to stay cool in the summer heat.

I also love that the bows on the back are adjustable - you can tie them as tight or as loose as you'd like, if you'd rather show a little more or less skin! If you're feeling like your shirt wardrobe needs some spicing up, "party in the back" tops like this are great. You can see a few of my other "party in the back" tops here and here.

High Waisted Pants & Crop Tops

In case you've just started following Vancouver Vogue, there's one thing you should know: I am utterly obsessed with maracons. That little parisian sweet, a sandwich of meringue with a light delicious filling, is not only the most Instagrammable treat, but is also my favourite dessert. In fact, I not only have a book of Laduree macaron recipes and a Laduree macaron keychain, but I now have two shirts with adorable macaron prints, including the crop top I'm wearing here, and this adorable blouse!

I spotted this cropped macaron print tee while at Value Village a few weeks back. I have hawk eyes when it comes to anything macaron, obviously. I was even more gleeful when I saw the tag - Jennyfer is a French brand I remember from when I visited France back in high school! Perfectly fitting for a shirt covered in macarons, non? Jennyfer is sort of like a Forever 21 type store there. We don't have any of their store locations in North America, so this was definitely a special find for me - just goes to show you never know what you'll find at Value Village.

I've started developing quite the collection of crop tops over the past year, but I didn't have any high waisted jeans to pair with them, so I went on the hunt at Winners recently, and ended up finding these Rachel Roy ones. They're super comfy: very stretchy and just the right height in the waist. I wasn't comfortable wearing my crop tops with my regular low waist jeans, so these are going to get a lot of use now!

Since it looks like sunny spring days are more plentiful now, I've been pulling out sunglasses a whole lot more too. One more accessory to style, yay! If you're on the hunt for a new pair, check out these super chic Flat Front Metal Aviator Sunglasses in Gold Pink from Ilymix. I love the pink mirrored lenses - they go great with lots of my spring outfits. If you want a pair too, you can use the code vogue20 for 20% off your Ilymix sunnies!

Is there a print you're totally obsessed with right now? I'd love to hear what it is!
